About the job:

Kent is looking for a Consulting Group Manager, Canada to be based in Calgary, AB and report to our Director – Front End Projects & Advisory Services, Americas. The Consulting Group performs a wide range of specialist multidiscipline technical services for onshore and offshore Energy Sector (hydrocarbon production, LNG, pipelines, power generation, low carbon fuels) clients, including Technical Safety, Environmental, Asset Development, Production Optimisation & Decarbonisation, Asset Integrity, and Decommissioning scopes.

The Consulting Group Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational performance, business development, and financial success of the Consultancy Group in Canada. This role involves the winning and execution of these scopes and overseeing a multidisciplinary team of consultants and project managers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality advisory and consulting services while driving profitable growth, client satisfaction, and employee engagement.

The successful candidate will develop and execute business strategies, expand client relationships, manage operational excellence, and foster a high-performance culture aligned with organisational goals.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Implement the strategic plan to grow the size and capabilities of the Consultancy Group in Canada through Technical Safety & Specialist Studies; Environmental; Asset Development (Concept to FEED); Production Optimisation & Decarbonisation; Asset Integrity; Decommissioning.
  • Identify market trends, emerging opportunities, and competitive positioning strategies for the onshore and offshore Energy Sector (including hydrocarbon production, LNG, pipelines, power generation, low carbon fuels).
  • Establish annual business goals, growth initiatives, and performance metrics.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Business Development, Winning Work & Client Management

  • Drive revenue growth through strategic account management and new client acquisition.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Lead proposal development, contract negotiations, and pursuit strategies for major opportunities.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, client meetings, and professional events.
  • Collaborate with other business units to identify and secure cross-selling opportunities.

Financial Management

  • Accountable for business group profit and loss performance.
  • Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and resource plans in accordance with Kent systems.
  • Monitor financial performance including revenue, utilization, profitability, backlog, and invoicing.
  • Implement corrective actions to achieve business objectives and financial targets.
  • Manage project portfolios to ensure profitability and risk mitigation.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Mentor and develop consulting professionals and business leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Recruitment Team to identify and hire new team members.
  • Create succession plans and support leadership development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and inclusion.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish professional development plans in accordance with Kent systems.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and resource allocation across projects and programs.

Technical Execution and Operational Excellence

  • Ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality consulting services and client outcomes in accordance with Kent systems.
  • Monitor project performance, schedule adherence, quality metrics, and client satisfaction.
  • Support risk management, contract compliance, and governance requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project execution methodologies and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as the technical lead for consulting engagements, providing subject matter expertise and engineering oversight.
  • Guide project teams in the development of engineering solutions that meet client objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Review and approve technical deliverables, calculations, specifications, reports, and designs.
  • Drive innovation and promote the adoption of best practices, emerging technologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare technical material and present to clients.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and organisational priorities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop partnerships with industry organizations, vendors, and strategic partners.
  • Promote the organization's reputation, values, and thought leadership.


Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering required (other disciplines will be considered based on experience; Master’s degree or higher is preferred.
  • P. Eng license required.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience.
  • Must have previous experience in a client-facing role, showing an understanding of the commercial challenges relevant to an engineering consultancy business.
  • Must have previous experience in selling and winning work.
  • Experience with brownfield and greenfield projects in Canada is required.
  • Previous experience with offshore projects would be preferred.
  • Previous experience with advanced analysis modelling techniques including CFD would be preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word).
  • Demonstrated strong skills in one or more of the following areas:
    • Technical Safety & Specialist Studies,
    • Environmental,
    • Asset Development (Concept to FEED),
    • Production Optimisation & Decarbonisation,
    • Asset Integrity,
    • Decommissioning

Communication:

  • Proven technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with team members, clients and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

  • Co-operative and helpful attitude toward both colleagues and clients with demonstrated experience in mentoring of more junior resources.
