JOB FUNCTION
Manage and produce content for the Chelsea Official App and Chelsea official website, ensuring our owned and operated channels provide supporters with best-in-class content.
The role will include the production and management of content on the Chelsea Official App, with a focus on keeping supporters engaged on our platforms through our written, video and fan-focused products, such as mini-games, Play Predictor and Pick Your XI.
The content manager will also contribute to the production and curation of stories and moments on the Chelsea Official App, while also working match-days to ensure a rich content output for our supporters.

Main Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Senior App Manager and Editor to deliver a best-in-class experience for users of the Chelsea Official App.
- Oversee and contribute to day-to-day management of the Chelsea Official App, with a focus on home section curation and push notifications.
- Produce engaging, entertaining and compelling written and video content for our owned channels, specifically the Chelsea Official App, to help tell the story of Chelsea and our teams.
- Work closely with the Website and App Content Team to provide wide-ranging content output. You will also need to collaborate with the Social Media and Video teams around content production.
- Create content suited for our global audience to drive supporter engagement and bring new fans into club-owned platforms.
- Contribute to editorial planning across the Chelsea Official App and website, ensuring content is aligned with key football, commercial and club moments.
- Interview players from across our teams to help create varied content strands to be published on official Chelsea channels.
- Report on pre- and post-match press conferences, working to a strict deadline to provide the Chelsea news first and accurately.
- Provide best-in-class coverage of home and away fixtures, with a reactive and precise approach under pressure.
- Identify trending topics that could be turned into suitable stories to use on Chelsea channels.
- Proactively seek new opportunities for content and stories across the club’s ecosystem.
- Create interactive features on the app, including quizzes and polls.
- Deliver relevant Partner and Commercial activations as required.
- Work first-team games, both home and away on a rota basis, including some European and global travel where required.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality control and brand consistency.
- Optimise content presentation, article and video placement and user journeys to maximise engagement, retention and content consumption.
- Use audience and performance data to understand what fans are watching and reading and continually improve programming and content decisions.
- Regularly review other leading football, sport, entertainment and media platforms to identify new approaches to content production.
- Work to agreed KPIs and targets with the wider Digital, Marketing and Commercial functions, ensuring app and website content supports the Club’s wider objectives.
Person Specification
Essential
- Degree in a relevant field or NCTJ qualification.
- Proven experience in football media.
- Strong editorial judgement when creating content.
- Experience of working effectively within strict deadlines and in a fast-paced media environment, demonstrating strong proof reading and researching skills.
- Extensive experience of using a content management system to publish content for a media outlet, football club or governing body
- Capable writer for a variety of purposes and audiences.
- Experience in dealing with high-profile personalities.
- Comprehensive understanding of digital media and a strong knowledge of professional football.
- Able to deal with sensitive situations tactfully and maintain confidentially at all times.
- Experience working alongside product teams on delivery of fan-facing tools and products.
- Ability to work using own initiative and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working quickly and making editorial decisions in a live matchday environment.
- Confident communicator.
Advantageous
- Video editing skills
- Experience of using the WSC content platform
- Knowledge of women’s football
- Strong understanding of audience analytics and content performance reporting.
- Understanding of SEO and content optimisation best practices
- Experience managing or contributing to app content strategies.
