Content Pipeline Engineer (Experienced to Principal)
Based in the heart of Leamington Spa, Pixel Toys have spent over a decade pushing the capabilities of mobile and VR gaming. We have developed multiple award-winning titles, including: Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm War; and we’re now excited to be exclusively working on a new game, unlike ANYTHING we’ve done previously!
As a forward thinking and innovative studio we are always looking for new technologies and techniques to develop and use in our games and make them even more engaging experiences for our customers.
We are excited to continue to grow our team and are always on the lookout for highly talented and motivated individuals, who are passionate about gaming and excited to join us on our ambitious journey!
The Role:
Join us as a Content Pipeline Engineer at Pixel Toys, you will help guide the journey our game content takes from the Art team’s authoring tools into the live game. Operating at the intersection of Art, Technical Art, and Engineering, you will serve as a key bridge, translating artistic vision into reliable technical workflows for our mobile titles. You will collaborate closely with discipline leads, artists, and engineers to define processes, establish content standards, and support our technology in a flexible environment where your architectural ideas help shape our content workflows and mobile performance.
Your day-to-day will see you designing, building, and maintaining tools, scripts, and automation that streamline how artists author, validate, and deliver their work, reducing repetitive manual steps and turnaround times. Within the Unity Engine, you will construct user-friendly editor tooling, including custom inspectors, EditorWindows, property drawers, and ScriptableObjects to provide artists with smooth, reliable workflows. Simultaneously, you will support and maintain export tools within major DCC packages (such as Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender), creating a clear, validated pipeline that produces consistent, game-ready content.
You will also work directly with Unity's core architecture, building and maintaining import pipelines using custom importers, the Asset Database, and Unity’s serialisation system. Beyond the pipeline itself, you will support the integration of shaders, materials, and visual effects within the Universal Render Pipeline (URP), helping ensure assets align with validation guidelines and performance targets. Leveraging tools like the Unity Profiler, Memory Profiler, and Frame Debugger, you will proactively profile and optimise content for build size, memory, draw calls, and load times, ensuring our games run smoothly across a wide range of mobile devices.
About you:
You enjoy working at the crossroads of Art, Technical Art, and Unity programming, at the crossroads of Art, Technical Art, and Unity programming, bringing practical experience in building art pipelines or editor tools. Your background in the Unity Engine is paired with a solid understanding of how 3D DCC tools (such as Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender) export content, supported by experience scripting or automating workflows using languages like Python, MEL, or MaxScript. You understand the relationship between technical asset creation and production workflows, helping you connect content creation tools with runtime game systems effectively.
Your technical foundation includes working knowledge of Unity’s asset import architecture, such as ScriptedImporters, AssetPostprocessors, or the Asset Database, alongside a clear understanding of the serialization system, ScriptableObjects, and prefab workflows. You are comfortable building custom Unity Editor tooling and have practical experience with Addressables strategies, handling dependency catalogs and memory-aware runtime loading. Furthermore, familiarity with Unity’s rendering stack (such as URP, Shader Graph, HLSL, or mobile asset compression) will help you navigate pipeline challenges with confidence.
Along with your technical skills, you are a collaborative problem solver and an effective communicator who can explain pipeline concepts clearly across disciplines. You approach asset budgets and mobile performance with a thoughtful, proactive mindset, using profiling tools to identify and resolve bottlenecks early. As a team-oriented colleague, you enjoy continuous learning, care about workflow quality, and are motivated by helping others create great games.
