Contract FPGA Engineer

Summary

Contract FPGA engineer designs and implements hardware logic using VHDL/Verilog and Xilinx/Intel toolchains for a UK-based product company.

Salary: £60,000 - 90,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Strong commercial experience developing FPGA solutions using VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Hands-on experience with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado and/or Intel Quartus.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering FPGA designs from specification through to implementation.
  • Degree qualified in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Active SC Clearance or eligibility for SC Clearance is required.
  • Existing DV Clearance would be a significant advantage.
  • Desirable: experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and system modelling using MATLAB or Simulink.
  • Desirable: embedded software development in C/C++ within Linux environments.
  • Desirable: experience of communications systems, software-defined radio (SDR), radar, or other RF technologies.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and implement FPGA firmware using VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Support the full FPGA development lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, simulation, and verification.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems engineers to integrate FPGA solutions into complex products.
  • Contribute to the development of prototype systems for technically challenging applications.
  • Assist with testing, debugging, and optimisation of FPGA designs.

We are offering an exciting 6-month contract opportunity for an experienced FPGA Engineer to join our innovative engineering team in Cambridge, working on cutting-edge technology projects within the defence and secure communications sector. This is an on-site role with a competitive rate dependent on experience and is outside IR35. You will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop high-performance hardware solutions from initial concept through to prototype and testing.
