C. Caswell Engineering Services Limited are a highly established family business, operating from our base in Haslingden, Lancashire for over 50 years. We carry out HVAC projects all over the UK from design through to manufacture and installation and have a strong customer base in the restaurant sector. We are licenced manufacturers of CASWELL FIRESAFE® a leading global brand of fire resisting ductwork and supply certified systems to a wide range of industries and customers.
The Role:
We are looking to recruit a Contracts Manager for our CASWELL FIRESAFE® Fire Resisting Ductwork installations. The role is varied with managerial responsibility for the Project Managers, Project Engineers and contracts undertaken by Caswell FRD including:
- Ensure the delivery of all projects within budget and on time.
- Maintain Customer Relations to develop and grow our business.
- Satisfy all current Health & Safety legislation.
- Develop and mentor the Project Management team including identifying training requirements
- Ensure compliance with regards to CASWELL FIRESAFE® specifications.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Contract Office Management
- Manage our team of Project Managers and project engineers. This will involve coaching, training, supporting, allocation of work and managing their workload.
- Ensure Project Managers and Draughtsmen perform to the levels and standards expected of them and in line with their job descriptions.
- Identify training needs within your department and recommend training course if necessary to develop the staff in the contracts department.
- Help maintain a good working environment within the contract's office.
- Hold regular contract office meetings to review status on contracts and identify/resolve arising issues.
- Co-ordinate with other departments and provide sufficient detailed information to the relevant department heads to allow them to plan their resources.
- Develop and review operational procedures within the Contracts Department to improve efficiency and to ensure they meet the requirements of our quality procedures.
- Liaise with the Company's Quality Team to ensure our quality procedures are followed and developed to meet the needs of the company and the Quality certification body.
- Keep a programme of all projects progress to communicate through the company.
Contract Management
- Contract Review of all Caswell Orders, reviewing Tender, Customer Order and Terms & Conditions.
- Negotiate Contract Terms & Conditions with the customer.
- Attend Pre-Contract meetings and take responsibility for entering into a contract with customers ensuring the best interests of the company are met at all times.
- Take ownership of all contracts and liaise/supervise the Project Managers and Engineers.
- Liaise with production to ensure our products are manufactured to programme as efficiently as possible.
- Liaise with installation department and where necessary source and manage sub-contractors to ensure projects are sufficiently resourced to meet customer requirements.
- Ensure projects that are undertaken are fully in accordance with the company and site Health & Safety Requirements.
- Plan and programme contracts to meet customer demands and in conjunction with all departments to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality.
- Take commercial responsibility for the department.
Project Management
- Liaise with the client and appointed representatives (architects/consultants/contractors)
- Negotiate with sub-contractors and suppliers for project specific materials and services, ensuring 'best value' on price, quality and reliability.
- Lead and manage the team involved in the project, including Project Managers, Project Engineers, site staff and sub-contractors taking overall responsibility for the performance and delivery of the project.
- Manage the client's relationship through regular communications, keeping them informed of progress and checking satisfaction levels to ensure that any difficulties can be resolved. Monitor the programme and resources throughout the project to ensure the programme deadlines are met.
- Prepare and issue Health & Safety plans, Risk Assessment's, Method Statements and ensure they are signed, understood and adhered to.
- Commercial management of projects, preparing: Applications, Variations, Final Accounts and Invoices in a timely manner.
- Process internal orders through the company (works orders, site requisitions, delivery notes)
- Complete accurate daily time recordings of hours worked using the correct systems.
- Practice good housekeeping and work in a tidy and organised manner.
Sales & Estimating
- Responsibility for management of customers to develop our business.
- Liaise with Estimating Manager to take the lead in negotiating the winning of contracts.
- Support Estimating Manager with technical and commercial support.
- Develop and cultivate good relationships with customers and prospects.

Hours of Work
The core hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, it may be necessary to work outside your core hours to meet business needs.

- Project Management
- Good understanding of Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems and design.
- Good understanding of the products and services that the company can offer
- Good understanding of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental management policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the 'Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

Essential Requirements
- Experience of managing Ventilation and Air Conditioning/Building Services Projects.
- Knowledge of the 'Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
- Good understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental requirements.
- Good IT skills - Word, Excel, Access and Microsoft Project
Desirable
- Degree/ HND/HNC in Engineering/Building Services
- Project Management Qualification
- General Management/Operations Management Qualifications.
- Knowledge and Understanding of Ventilation and Air Conditioning Design.
