About the role
The Controller is a hands-on accounting and finance leader responsible for strengthening financial operations across Intersurgical’s United States organization. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, US, this position will initially focus on stabilizing and improving Accounts Payable operations, resolving intercompany accounting issues, strengthening internal controls, and developing a dependable two-person AP team. The Controller works alongside the existing Accounting Manager, who retains responsibility for Accounts Receivable. This role requires a leader willing to work directly in transactional details, ERP workflows, and reconciliations while improving processes and building capacity for broader financial responsibilities.
As AP operations stabilize, the Controller will progressively expand into month-end close and reporting, financial statement analysis, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial planning in partnership with the VP of Finance. The position offers an opportunity for long-term development toward senior US finance leadership, without a guaranteed promotion.
Key responsibilities
AP Stabilization and Operational Improvement — Initial Priority
- Assess AP backlogs, aged payables, vendor accounts, invoice approval and payment workflows, and recurring errors; create and execute a prioritized remediation plan.
- Directly engage in detailed transaction review, reconciliations, issue resolution, and ERP workflows when needed to restore accuracy and timeliness.
- Strengthen high-volume invoice processing, three-way matching where applicable, vendor master controls, payment controls, documentation, and escalation procedures.
- Investigate and resolve intercompany invoicing, balances, journal entries, and reconciliation discrepancies in partnership with US and group finance colleagues.
- Develop clear AP metrics, standard operating procedures, ownership, and month-end cutoffs; monitor sustained process performance.
People Leadership and Cross-Functional Partnership
- Directly supervise, coach, prioritize work for, and evaluate the two-person AP team; build accountability and technical capability.
- Work alongside the Accounting Manager, who retains oversight of AR, to coordinate handoffs, reconciliations, close activities, and shared controls without duplicating reporting lines.
- Partner with Purchasing, Operations, receiving teams, vendors, and global finance counterparts to address root causes and improve transaction quality.
Expanding Accounting and Finance Responsibilities — Following Stabilization
- Take on increasing responsibility for month-end close, general ledger integrity, financial statement review, accruals, reconciliations, and management reporting in coordination with the VP of Finance and Accounting Manager.
- Support annual budgets, rolling forecasts, cash-flow and working-capital analysis, and explanations of actual-to-plan variances.
- Develop financial dashboards and actionable analysis for US leadership, including manufacturing and operational performance.
- Participate in financial planning, process automation, systems improvement, and cross-functional decision support as capacity and readiness permit.
