Controller (m/w/d)

Open 20d

Summary

Part-time controller in Berlin managing budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting for an art foundation that commissions projects at venues like Kraftwerk Berlin and international locations.

  • Start: as soon as possible
  • Hours: 50 to 80 per cent position (20 to 32 hours per week) – we will agree the exact hours together
  • Contract: permanent

We have no building of our own. We commission artists to create new work and show it where it belongs – at Kraftwerk Berlin, Halle am Berghain, the Museum für Naturkunde, the Schering Stiftung and, increasingly, internationally. Publications, research projects and educational formats are equally part of our programme.

This model – changing venues, project-based budgets, international partners – places particular demands on financial management. For our team in Berlin, we are looking for someone to help shape our financial foundations with precision and foresight: part-time, permanent, with a clearly defined area of responsibility and real scope to shape it.

  • Project controlling for our artistic productions: you make sure that budgets and reality match.
  • Budget, liquidity and forecast planning for the organisation as a whole, including budget-to-actual comparisons and scenarios.
  • Management reporting for the CFO and budget holders – monthly and quarterly – as well as ad-hoc analyses as a basis for management decisions.
  • Close collaboration with our accounting team: they run day-to-day bookkeeping and own the liaison with our tax advisors for the annual financial statements. You provide the controlling input and make sure that accounting and controlling figures line up.
  • Monitoring the use of funds in line with German non-profit law and the use of restricted project funding.
  • Developing our controlling processes and reporting standards further.
  • A degree in business administration or economics – or a comparable qualification gained through training and professional experience
  • At least three years of professional experience in controlling, ideally in project-based or non-profit organisations
  • Sound knowledge of financial planning, controlling and accounting
  • A basic understanding of German non-profit law, or the willingness to acquire it quickly
  • Confident use of accounting and finance systems, ideally DATEV, as well as MS 365
  • Very good German (at least C1) and good English (at least B2)
  • A structured, precise and self-directed way of working – you make complex financial matters understandable
  • An interest in how projects in art, science and technology work
  • A role with a clearly defined area of responsibility in an organisation whose programme has international reach – your place of work is Berlin throughout, and travel is not part of the job
  • An office in Berlin-Kreuzberg, flexible working hours and the option of a hybrid setup
  • Insight into projects at the intersection of art, science and technology – and into the work of outstanding international artists
  • A team that treats diversity and inclusion as practice rather than proclamation
  • Modern working tools, including AI-assisted ones
  • A training budget for your professional and personal development
  • The creative freedom and reliability of a privately funded organisation
