Make Fleet Landing the Next Chapter in Your Story
Our Story
Integrity and passion drive us to be extraordinary. Since 1990, Fleet Landing has built a reputation for excellence in senior living, combining exceptional hospitality and care with a commitment to helping older adults live well.
Today, Polaris Endeavors, Inc., the parent organization of Fleet Landing and related enterprises, supports that mission across a growing organization. As we expand our communities and services, we’re strengthening the teams, systems, and processes that make our continued success possible.
Your Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Controller who brings strong technical accounting expertise, a hands-on approach, and the ability to lead people through change.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will lead the accounting team and oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls for Polaris Endeavors and its subsidiaries. You will play a central role in developing the team, improving processes, advancing automation, and maintaining accurate, timely financial information as the organization grows.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable resolving a complex accounting issue, coaching a team member, and helping an operational leader understand financial performance. Success requires sound judgment, clear expectations, and the ability to build trust and accountability while introducing new ways of working.
WELLInspired™ Benefits
Our Residents deserve the very best—and so do you. We support our team members with meaningful work, opportunities to grow, and a comprehensive benefits package, including:
  • Generous 401(k) match.
  • 90% employer-paid medical premiums.
  • Uncapped PTO accrual beginning on day one.
  • Extraordinary scholarship and continuing education opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the accounting team. Establish clear expectations, provide coaching and feedback, address performance gaps, and build cross-training and backup coverage.
  • Direct financial close and reporting. Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close; review entity-level and consolidated financial statements, reconciliations, intercompany balances, and consolidation eliminations.
  • Provide technical accounting leadership. Research and apply GAAP, document accounting conclusions, and guide the treatment of complex transactions, including revenue recognition, entrance fees, leases, debt, investments, and capital projects.
  • Strengthen controls and consistency. Establish accounting policies and effective internal controls that support accurate transaction processing and reliable reporting across the enterprise.
  • Lead audit and reporting coordination. Serve as a key contact for external auditors and coordinate timely preparation of Form 990, applicable tax filings, and required financial and regulatory reports.
  • Support planning and financial stewardship. Partner with the CFO on budgets, forecasts, variance analyses, liquidity planning, debt administration, and covenant calculations.
  • Oversee restricted funds and reserves. Maintain accurate accounting and documentation supporting the appropriate use and reporting of donor-restricted funds and reserves.
  • Partner with operational leaders. Explain financial results, address financial questions, and ensure responsive support from the accounting team.
  • Lead improvements and change. Standardize workflows, reduce manual work, and guide system implementation and automation while maintaining effective controls and team engagement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation strongly preferred.
  • At least seven years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including three years in an accounting leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success developing accounting teams, managing performance, and leading process improvement, system implementation, or automation.
  • Experience resolving technical accounting issues, leading financial close and consolidation, and working with external auditors.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and proficiency in accounting systems, enterprise resource planning platforms, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into practical guidance.
  • Experience in senior living, healthcare, nonprofit organizations, or other complex multi-entity environments preferred. Knowledge of Continuing Care Retirement Community accounting and reporting is a plus.
  • Integrity, discretion, and a sincere interest in supporting an organization dedicated to serving older adults.
Bring your expertise, develop your team, and help shape the financial foundation of our growing organization. Apply today.
