    Job Title: Controller

    Reports To: General Manager and Chief Operating Officer

    SUMMARY

    This hands on Controller position reports directly to the General Manager (GM) of Vitus Marine, LLC with dotted line reporting to the Vitus, LLC Corporate Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and executes the invoicing, vendor payment, general ledger accounting, payroll processing, closing processes, tax and audit preparation for Vitus Marine, LLC to meet established reporting requirements. The Controller assists the GM and CFO in the annual budget preparation cycle and supervises a team to ensure company financial statements comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the U.S.

    Essential Job Functions:

    · Responsible for the execution of invoicing, accounts payable, payroll processing, tax reporting and collection processes to reinforce best practices for Vitus Marine, LLC.

    · Inventory control and tracking responsibilities include the recording of all inventory transactions including transfers and variances. Reconciliation of tanker trips and lighterage trips through the accumulation of trip files and related documents. The filing, payment, and processing of all related tax and government reports applicable to fuel and inventory for Vitus Marine, LLC which includes, EIA reporting, customs entry reconciliation, Alaska Motor Fuel Return, IRS Form 720, and IRS Form 720-CS (all monthly). Help devise and implement new procedures for situations such as borrowed fuel

    · Maintain fixed asset records for Vitus Marine LLC to properly track and depreciate said assets

    · Review of all billing of Vitus Marine, LLC, and provide the necessary statements to Marketing Manager for collection efforts. Processing of credit cards when customer prefers such service. Help calculate and settle peculiar contract issues such as prepayment discounts. Maintain and help solve issues with Federal and State tax certificates for exemption on relevant forms. Billing of internal use boat fuel to accomplish proper tax reporting. Reconciliation of sales data at month end to determine all sales are properly recorded.

    · Perform month-end closing procedures which include the amortization of prepaid expenses, reconciliation of cash, reconciling intercompany transactions, and consolidating financial statements

    · Prepare and maintain cash forecasting models

    · Provides accurate and on-time reports to meet all stakeholder requirements that comply with US GAAP

    · Provides regular written comparative reports weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually as needed

    · Develops annual strategic financial plan for fiscal operations and capital budgets to link strategic mission and vision to a measurable specific set of financial goals

    · Serves as a Strategic Trusted Advisor for all executive and senior management team members

    Minimum Qualifications:

    · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related major

    · Six (6) years of direct work experience in a senior-level accounting role

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

    · Expert knowledge in accounting, budgeting and cost control principles according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

    · Working knowledge with short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and business-line profitability contribution margin analysis in a quality assured environment

    · Knowledge of automated financial, sales management, and accounting reporting systems

    · Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations and tax reporting requirements

    · Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections

    · Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings

    · Professional and executive-level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

    · Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite of Products

    Education:

    · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related major

    (1 year of directly related work experience may qualify to substitute 1 year of education to meet the education requirement)

    Required Training & Certificates:

    · Attends training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department.

    · Computer skills commensurate with program and job applications.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, but may be loud on occasion. Work is usually done in an office setting and sometimes at a client facility or job site. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. The position supervises exempt, non-exempt, and contracted staff. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles and equipment.

    The employee must be able to physically travel by air within, and out of, the State of Alaska.
