Controls Technician
Summary
Installs, programs, and troubleshoots commercial HVAC control systems, including temperature controls and automation, while performing repairs and maintenance in MA and RI.
As an HVAC Controls Technician, you are knowledgeable about the installation and repairs of all types of commercial HVAC systems. You understand how to Service, maintain, and repair HVAC systems. You can also troubleshoot HVAC malfunctions and determine the extent of necessary repairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, program, maintain, and troubleshoot automatic temperature control systems.
- Perform project startup, checkout, and troubleshooting for installed systems and service jobs.
- Make necessary adjustments and calibrations.
- Create commissioning reports for projects.
- Respond to customer service calls, diagnosing and repairing control systems.
- Provide technical support for end-users and mechanical field technicians.
- Perform system upgrades and controller cutovers
- Perform wiring checkout and assists in systems start-ups
- Perform programming sequence checkout
- Work independently
- Assist in the training of other technicians
- Interpret HVAC and electrical schematics, diagrams, and blueprints to ensure proper installation and service.
- Work in a professional manner in both occupied finish spaces and construction sites.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards during all installations, repairs, and maintenance tasks.
- 5+ years in HVAC technology, troubleshooting, system controls and repairs
- Experience reading and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
- Building Automation System and Chiller repair/cooling towers and troubleshooting experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- EPA Universal refrigerant certification preferred.
- Knowledge of safety practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members and clients.
Work Environment:
This position requires the employee to work both inside and outside. The employee may be subject to loud noises and hot and cold temperatures while on work site.
Positions Type and Expected hours of Work:
This is a full-time 40-hour position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Travel: Daily travel to job sites throughout MA and RI
Physical Demands:
- Lifting weight up to and over 75 lbs. in both a vertical and horizontal range of motion.
- Crawl, stoop, stand, reach (push/pull) & bend to perform necessary work.
- Able to ascend and descend on extension ladders, step ladders and stairs using feet and/or hands and arms.
- Able to drive a company vehicle and walk around at job sites.
- Reading, computer input, typing and answering the phone.
- Clarity of vision at both over 20 feet and under 20 inches.
- Able to judge depth (distance & space relationships), have a good field of vision, and identify and distinguish colors.
- Adjustment of eye to bring object into sharp focus.
