Core Software Engineer

Summary

Build and own core backend systems for a stablecoin neobank, integrating card rails, non-custodial wallets, and money-critical infrastructure in TypeScript/Node.

Able is building a stablecoin neobank. Users deposit USDT/USDC and spend it anywhere with a real card.

We have already shipped a beta product end to end live, and we are now building our next card rail on non-custodial infrastructure. This role is for one of the first engineers on the team, working directly with the founder across the whole stack.

Role Overview

We are looking for a strong backend/full-stack engineer who can own money-critical infrastructure, vendor integrations, card-issuer APIs, non-custodial wallet flows, and production systems. This is a high-ownership role for someone comfortable working fast, solving unclear problems, and shipping real user-facing fintech infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Own and extend the backend: a TypeScript/Node API system handling auth, KYC orchestration, card provisioning, money movement, and webhooks against card-issuer APIs.
  • Build future card rails by integrating non-custodial issuers with embedded wallets, including Privy, on-chain deposits across chains, USDC via CCTP, and reconciliation between on-chain funds and card spend.
  • Work on money-critical code, including per-user integer ledger, idempotency, webhook deduplication, serialized wallet operations, monthly limits, sanctions, and geoblocking.
  • Handle vendor integrations end to end, including request signing, payload encryption, KYC providers, OTP, 3DS challenge flows, and third-party APIs.
  • Touch frontend surfaces when needed, including the React/Vite mobile-web app and Expo/React Native app.
  • Own backend operations, including database, Vercel, CI, monitoring, secrets hygiene, and production incident debugging.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building production backend or full-stack systems in TypeScript/Node.
  • Experience with payments, fintech, banking, or card issuing is strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable with money-movement invariants, including idempotency, double-entry thinking, race conditions, and reconciliation.
  • Able to read vendor API documentation, identify where the docs are wrong, and still ship a working integration.
  • Crypto literacy or strong willingness to learn, including EVM chains, ERC-20 transfers, wallet infrastructure, and bridging.
  • Strong security mindset, including PAN handling and PCI boundaries, step-up authentication, least-privilege API surfaces, and KYC/AML awareness.

Nice to Have

  • Experience taking a fintech product through compliance or production reviews with an issuing partner.

How We Work

Able is small, fast, and high-trust. AI-assisted development is embraced. You will ship to production quickly and own real user-facing surfaces from the beginning.
