Cost Engineer - Natural Resources Construction
The Cost Engineer will support the planning, monitoring, and control of project costs throughout the construction lifecycle of large-scale capital projects. This role is responsible for developing estimates, tracking budgets and forecasts, managing change control, and providing cost reporting to support successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain project cost estimates, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Monitor construction costs and project expenditures against approved budgets.
- Support cost control activities, including commitment tracking, accruals, and cost forecasting.
- Review contractor invoices, payment applications, and supporting cost documentation.
- Evaluate change requests and trends, providing cost impact analysis and recommendations.
- Develop and maintain cost reports, performance metrics, and project dashboards.
- Support risk identification and quantification related to construction cost performance.
- Perform cost benchmarking, quantity validation, and analysis of contractor pricing.
- Collaborate with project controls, construction, engineering, procurement, and contractor teams to ensure accurate cost management.
- Assist with project closeout activities, including final account reconciliation and lessons learned.
- SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, or a related discipline.
- 3-7 years of experience in cost engineering, cost control, or project controls within the construction industry.
- Experience supporting large capital construction projects; offshore, energy, industrial, or infrastructure experience preferred.
- Knowledge of construction estimating, forecasting, earned value principles, and change management processes.
- Proficiency with cost management and project controls systems.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced project environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
