Costing Engineer

About the Role

The Costing Engineer is responsible for analyzing and calculating product costs for backpack development, ensuring accurate pricing, consumption, cost efficiency, and alignment with business margin targets.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare detailed cost breakdowns for backpacks, including materials, labor, overhead, and logistics.

  • Develop and maintain accurate material consumption calculations for all backpack components, including fabrics, linings, webbings, foams, trims, hardware, labels, and packaging materials.

  • Build and analyze BOMs, material utilization, and wastage to ensure costing accuracy and identify cost optimization opportunities.

  • Perform operation-level time studies and SMV (Single Minute Value) analysis for sewing, assembly, and finishing processes to support labor costing and factory quotation validation.

  • Partner with Design, Sample Room, Product Development, and suppliers to support RFQs, estimate costs during design, development and sampling, and provide timely cost guidance.

  • Evaluate and validate supplier and factory quotations, conduct cost comparisons, and recommend cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or performance.

  • Track and maintain costing data throughout the product design and development lifecycle, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timely communication of cost changes to stakeholders.

  • Support margin analysis, pricing strategy, and achievement of profitability targets.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Textile & Garment Engineering, or related field preferred

  • Greater than 2 years of experience in costing within bag/backpack, footwear, or garment manufacturing

  • Strong knowledge of materials (fabric, foam, zippers, webbing, trims)

  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes (cutting, sewing, lamination, RF welding, etc.)

  • Strong analytical and Excel skills

  • Detail-oriented with good commercial mindset

  • Good communication in English

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with global brands

  • Cost negotiation experience

  • Familiarity with PLM/ERP systems
