Counter Sales (Full-Time)

A successful Counter Sales employee at Dunn Lumber is expected to learn and grow their ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities needed to uphold a safe, clean, accurate, and hospitable environment as customers shop at Dunn. Counter Sales team members are tasked in partnering with customers to help them through their projects from start to finish. Providing guidance, product recommendations, and occasionally a little reassurance, our sales team goes above and beyond to provide a memorable experience for their customers. We focus on treating each customer the way they want to be treated. A fully trained counter sales employee can uphold The Legacy of Trust daily by providing trusted advice, quality materials, and excellent service. This happens when a salesperson is focused on product knowledge and creating lasting relationships with our customers, from professional contractors to first time do-it-yourselfers.

Work Schedule

This location is currently hiring for the following schedule(s):

Wednesday - Friday (6:40am - 6:10pm) & Saturday (7:40am - 5:10pm)

Please Note: Upon hire, all employees complete two-week training period, at our Bellevue or Shoreline locations. For a new hire's first two weeks they work a training schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm. This training is mandatory, and employees receive daily stipends to offset travel expenses.

  • Build an extensive knowledge of the products and grades of building materials
  • P.O.S. (point of sale) system to process orders, create quotes, and manage purchase orders
  • Regularly use email, instant messaging, and phone for communication
  • Detailed approach to quoting and selling material in a timely manner
  • Maintain a clean, professional workstation and personal appearance
  • Provide our customers with responsible advice regarding their projects
  • Establish familiarity with numerous vendors and the products they provide
  • Attend training in a wide variety of home-improvement topics
  • Meet customer expectations and project timelines
  • Assist customers in getting product out to their vehicle
  • Conduct yourself each day in a manner consistent with Dunn Lumber’s core values
  • Other duties as assigned

Previous Experience : Customer service experience is preferred.

Education, Certificates, or Licenses: This position has no prerequisite education, certificates, or licenses. Employee must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Technical/Computer Skills : To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic competency with computers including the ability to enter login credential information, punch in and out for work, and operate a barcode scanner. This position also requires ability to perform basic math, such as counting, fractions, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

Supervisor Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 20+ pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: This job constantly operates in an indoor retail store environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The passage of employees through the work area is average and normal.
