Summary

Oversee banking legal matters in Singapore, drafting and reviewing agreements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and representing the company in legal proceedings.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review agreements with external parties to ensure legality and protect institutional interests.
  • Review and draft facility credit agreements, terms, and documentation for banking services and security arrangements.
  • Validate the legality and adequacy of communications issued by the institution, including letters and notices.
  • Represent the institution in legal actions, including lawsuits, court proceedings, and arbitration.
  • Participate in investigations related to staff misconduct or customer disputes, providing legal opinions and necessary recommendations.
  • Supervise and coordinate with external legal advisors as needed.
  • Contribute legal advice for the development of policies, procedures, and controls within the organization.
  • Advise on compliance with banking regulations and the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
  • Draft legal instruments issued by the institution to its officers, including mandate letters and powers of attorney.
  • Ensure positive audit results and promptly address any findings with actionable plans.
  • Adhere to the institution's Code of Conduct and compliance with all local laws and regulations.
  • Support legal operations within the Asia Pacific region, particularly in Singapore and Shanghai branches.

Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (minimum); Master’s Degree in Law from a reputable institution is preferred.
  • Member of the Singapore Academy of Law or an equivalent Bar Association.
  • Minimum of 15 years of legal practice experience within financial or non-financial institutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Singapore laws, legal codes, and court procedures.
  • Sound understanding of lending practices, banking products, and Central Bank regulations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven leadership capabilities.
