County-Wide Rover (Part-Time/Substitute)
Summary
Part-time substitute role driving a county vehicle to supervise and support recreational programs, facilities, and events across Arlington County parks, community centers, and schools.

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is hiring a part-time County-Wide Rover to serve as a substitute for regularly scheduled staff. This position will work indoors and outdoors in an exciting, fast paced, and multi-faceted environment. The Rovers are responsible for operations of indoor and outdoor facilities located within County Community Centers, County Parks, and/or at Arlington Public School properties.
Specific Duties Include:
- Driving a County vehicle to multiple sports events and facilities to ensure events and activities are a safe and positive experience;
- Providing reliable information to the public about events and recreational programs offered at the facility, field and throughout Arlington County;
- Utilizing multiple technology devices to map various park and facility locations to support daily operations at county facilities fields, and throughout Arlington County;
- Supervising activities at multiple facilities such as special events, leagues, rentals and other programs/services;
- Providing support and supervision to County Facility Monitors located on fields, in parks, and at Community Centers;
- Performing light cleaning of the facility, grounds, and assigned vehicles;
- Moving equipment from one location to another;
- Collecting attendance data, game reports and use reports;
- Completing Incident/Accident Reports; and
- Setting up and taking down events and fields based on programmatic needs.
The ideal candidate is responsible, self-motivated, a team player, and one who enjoys working with a culturally diverse population. The ability to work flexible work hours, make good decisions, and aid in supervision of other staff, along with possess excellent customer service skills, and can resolve conflicts and issues at the facilities or on the fields. The employees will always be active, engaging with the public, providing oversight into activities in the facility, and enforcing County policies, rules, and safety regulations.
High school diploma/equivalent; and
Some experience in facility monitoring, assisting with recreational programs, providing customer service, or related duties.
Desirables: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in the following:
- Providing direct customer service to the public;
- Utilizing multiple technology devices to include computers, IPads, and cell phones;
- Resolving and assisting with conflict resolution;and
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Substitution: Successful completion of some college coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement. A valid vehicle operator's license may be required based on

A pre-hire background check will be conducted on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
The employee will be driving a county vehicle and therefore must obtain, by the time of appointment, a valid driver license and the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or they must provide a copy of their official driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record. The applicant must maintain a good driving record and pass the County's Defensive Driving course.
The employee must possess and maintain a First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification within 60 days of hire.
If appointed to the position, the employee will wear an assigned uniform and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Some positions may require walking or standing for long periods of time.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work hours: This position serves as a substitute for regularly scheduled staff on an as-needed basis and does not guarantee regular hours. The role requires flexibility to support a year-round program, with shifts scheduled during weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. (primarily 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and weekends between 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. as operational needs require.
