A Look into Your Day

You will begin your career as a Credit Analyst alongside a group of driven recent graduates who are eager to launch their careers in commercial banking. Your first eight weeks will consist of immersive commercial credit training in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where you will build a strong foundation in financial analysis, lending, and relationship banking.

Once training is complete, you will put your knowledge into practice by analyzing the financial health of businesses across a variety of industries. Through the review of financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, collateral, and guarantor support, you'll learn how companies operate, generate revenue, and manage risk. No two borrowers are alike, which means every credit request presents a new opportunity to learn and develop your expertise.

As your experience grows, you will prepare written credit presentations and communicate your findings to managers and lenders. Your analysis will play an important role in evaluating a borrower's ability to repay and helping the bank make sound lending decisions. You will develop strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills that will serve you throughout your career. At Mercantile, your career does not stop with the Credit Analyst role. Many of our commercial lenders, managers, and bank leaders began their careers as a Credit Analyst. Through mentorship, hands-on learning, and exposure to experienced banking professionals, you will build the skills and relationships needed for long-term success.

In addition to developing your banking knowledge, you will have opportunities to get involved in the communities we serve through volunteer initiatives, networking events, and professional development opportunities.
