National Banking Corporation Credit Analyst
Position Goal
The Credit Analyst plays a critical role in supporting National Banking Corporation Limited’s credit decision-making process by conducting detailed financial analysis, risk assessments, and credit evaluations. This role ensures that all credit proposals—whether personal, SME, or commercial—are thoroughly checked and tracked in the Credit Register correctly and allocated and or decisioned within the delegated authority or recommended to a higher DLA holder.
Major roles & responsibilities for Credit Analyst includes:
Credit Evaluation & Analysis
- Assess personal loans, motor vehicle loans applications by analysing applicant’s payslips, bank statements, confirmation letter, repayment capacity, and collateral.
- Recommend or approve if request is within DLA or recommend to higher DLA holder.
- Conduct affordability checks and credit scoring for personal credit requests.
Risk Assessment & Compliance
- Identify key credit risks and propose appropriate mitigants in line with NBCL’s credit policy and Bank of Papua New Guinea regulations.
- Ensure all credit assessments comply with internal controls, AML/CFT guidelines, and audit standards.
- Maintain accurate and complete records for decisions and documentation to support audit and regulatory reviews.
Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting
- Assist in monitoring approved facilities for performance, covenant compliance, and early warning signs.
- Support periodic reviews and renewals of existing credit facilities.
- Prepare reports on credit trends, risk exposures, and portfolio quality for management review.
- Take minutes for the Credit Committee (CC) meeting. Ensure timely turnaround time in providing minutes to the committee prior to the CC meeting.
- Assist credit team to update tracker on all decisions made and provide report at end of every month.
Stakeholder Support
- Work closely with Lending Officers, Branch Officers, and Lending Support teams to ensure quality credit submissions.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in credit analysis, lending operations, or financial assessment.
- Strong understanding of PNG’s banking regulations, credit practices, and customer segments.
- Experience in both personal and business credit evaluation is highly desirable.
