Credit Risk Associate for Japanese Corporate Banking

You manage underwriting and portfolio risk for Japanese Corporate Banking loan clients, including complex and non-investment-grade relationships. You perform credit reviews, analyze financial and industry risks, recommend ratings and credit extensions, support deal execution, monitor covenants, ensure policy compliance, communicate with stakeholders, and support junior analysts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform due diligence and scheduled credit reviews
  • Analyze portfolio credit risk and recommend accurate ratings to management
  • Prepare credit analyses and credit applications under bank policies and procedures
  • Evaluate borrower industry, business, legal, and financial risks
  • Recommend extensions of credit
  • Assess risks of loans, standby letters of credit, trade finance, foreign exchange, derivatives, securitization, and leases
  • Interview borrower senior management and communicate with assigned customers
  • Monitor covenants, facility due dates, conditions, reports, and call memoranda
  • Support new transactions from a credit underwriting perspective
  • Advise account officers on credit risks, terms, conditions, and deal structures
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal credit policies
  • Support junior analysts and assist with training efforts

Requirements

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-stress, time-sensitive environment
  • Strong time management, organization, and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, legal matters, and regulations for commercial banking products
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as accounting or finance
  • Three to five years of experience in financial institutions or credit and risk functions
  • Experience analyzing corporate customers and making credit recommendations
  • Japanese language skills
  • MBA or CFA is a plus
