The lead crew member sets the example for litter crew members. The lead crew member picks up litter, bio-hazardous waste, and hazardous waste at assigned locations and assists the supervisor with planning and leading crew members to meet company goals. Your morning will start off by meeting your supervisor and other crew members at a designated location, and then transporting the crew to clean the assigned location. Lead crew members will also cover for the supervisor during scheduled or unscheduled time off. Remediation work includes roadway, medians, rights-of-ways, and parking facilities along roadways. Additional projects may include homeless encampment cleanup.
JOB DUTIES
- Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and to work the entire assigned schedule.
- Operate company vehicle in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Ensure crew efficiency and job requirements are met.
- Ensure that crew members clock-in and out on a company mobile device.
- Ensure equipment safety before, during, and after use.
- Must obey all safety rules and regulations.
- Pick up and bag litter along assigned interstates and other roadways.
- Load and unload trash bags at designated locations.
- Setting up, moving, and picking up highway awareness signs throughout the workday.
- Meet and exceed assigned litter collection goals.
- Communicate with field supervisor any hazards or unsafe conditions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job cooperating with others, offering help to others when needed, and considering large organizational goals rather than individual concerns.
- Ability to be self-controlled and exercise good judgement.
- Must wear proper clothing including protective equipment.
- Ability to input data using smart phone applications
- Drive contracted routes to assess conditions and work with market management to determine litter abatement plan.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and education requirements
- High-school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Must be willing to drive a vehicle with a trailer attached.
- Reliable transportation to meet at assigned location as early as 6:00am.
- Walk at least 5 miles per day.
- Lift up to 25 lbs. multiple times daily.
- Use of grabber-type device.
- Outdoor work experience required.
Preferred skills
Ability to work independently, detail oriented, operate a variety of small hand tools, smart phone and other items needed for the job.
Physical demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds; will regularly be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms; and will frequently be required to talk or hear. Special vision requirements are close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to walk for extended periods of time over rough, steep, or uneven terrain in all weather conditions.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and will frequently be exposed to moving traffic and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level for this environment will be loud. Requires collection of litter along roadways and rights-of-way for extended periods and in all types of weather.
