CTE Intensive Instructor

Summary or Purpose

Under the direction of the Qatqinniagvit Career Tech. Education Director and/or Manager, the CTE Instructor will guide students in the acquisition of basic skills, knowledge and attitudes as identified by district curriculum guidelines and industry standards.

Under the guidance of the Director and/or Manager, the Instructor will provide the basis for instructional decision-making. Programs taught will be determined by student interest and career pathways. All instruction provided for students will be individualized. This means that differences in individual learning style, rate of learning, level of maturation, and level of achievement will provide the basis for instructional decision-making. To respond to these differences, it is expected that instructors will vary materials, rate of instruction, and methodology and these modifications will be based upon frequent assessment.

This is a non-benefitted grant funded position. Subsequent years are reliant upon continuation of funds.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Alaska Teaching certificate with an endorsement in a CTE field preferred.
  • Minimum of Alaska Type M certification in area of CTE required.
  • Knowledge & experience with culturally safe and responsive practices preferred.
  • Knowledge & experience in trauma engaged practices preferred.
  • Positive school climate and restorative practices preferred.
  • Iñupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consult with the Qatqiññiaġvik CTE Director and Manager in program development.
  • Creates an authentic, consistent, strength-based culturally safe and responsive instructional environment for learning and instruction program plan through collaboration with staff, students, families, and community that provides expectations and success criteria.
  • Encourage and support a Grow Your Own career path for middle school and high school students. Build and maintain effective working relationships with North Slope entities to grow a Qatqiññiaġvik and CTE program that meets the goals of the students and the needs of the eight communities within the North Slope.
  • Promote and support School District Goals as defined in the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
  • Participate in the activities of educational committees and organizations for the benefit of the District, the Qatqiññiaġvik program, personal growth and the general promotion of the profession.
  • Abide by the code of ethics and the professional teaching standards adopted by the Professional Teaching Practice Commission of the State.
  • Provide instruction in safety, particularly as it applies to the use of power tools, machines, hand tools, hazardous materials, and protective gear.
  • Stay current in practices and advancements within the field of career and technical education.
  • Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the Director and/or Manager may assign.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to travel within and outside of the North Slope Borough School District. The employee must be willing and able to fly in small and large commuter planes.
