Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Food Service Work position assists with the preparation of meals. At times, supervision of kitchen activities may be delegated to the Food Service Worker. The Food Service Worker will ensure all aspects of the food service operation performed during their shift, including but not limited to, food preparation, serving meals, cleaning, and maintenance of food service area/equipment as well as record keeping where required during their shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Follow established schedules in cooking, baking, sanitation, and related activities.
• Use standard food preparation utensils and equipment.
• Utilize food, ingredients and other consumables as determined by menus and estimated number of diners.
• Apply consistent standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standard and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures.
• Receive and organize all in-kind donations.
• Clean and sanitize all food preparation equipment and reports food preparation issues or equipment malfunctions to the Director of the Soup Kitchen.
• Demonstrate a consistent effort to improve food preparation and provide quality customer service.
• Deep commitment to Roof Above core values.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participates in staff training and development activities as directed.
• Performs other duties assigned.
