Custom Clearance Agent

Role Purpose:The primary objective of this role is to manage the daily processing of dutiable materials entering the Gateway. You will facilitate all necessary customs clearance documentation to ensure every shipment is processed accurately and on time.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the timely and compliant customs clearance of all materials arriving at the Gateway.
  • Prepare and forward correct customs documentation (faxes, paperwork, and images) to Ground Operations.
  • Scan documents, extract data from the CIA System, and input checkpoints accurately.
  • Match paperwork to Bills of Entry and complete them for presentation to Customs officials.
  • Retrieve original shipment paperwork from the warehouse to guarantee efficient clearance.
  • Maintain manual status reports for all non-advised shipments to ensure appropriate dispatch.
  • Manage inventory reports for on-hold shipments, coordinating with Operations and Customer Service for follow-ups.
  • Maintain regular, professional contact with internal and external customers regarding held shipments.
  • Verify tariff codes, currencies, and invoice valuations to accurately calculate Customs duties.
  • Check the duty exemption status of shipments and process them accordingly.
  • Prepare Delivery Orders and all associated paperwork required by local Customs.
  • Assist consignees in clearing sensitive or restricted shipments (e.g., pharmaceuticals, media) before delivery dispatch.


Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

  • University Graduate.
  • Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
  • Proven professional experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding, or gateway logistics.
  • Solid understanding of Egyptian customs regulations, tariff coding, and duty valuation processes.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Customs Information Applications (e.g., CIA System) for data management.
  • Strong operational command of standard workplace software (Microsoft Office).
  • High attention to detail, specifically when managing complex or restricted shipment documentation.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to maintain neat and orderly filing systems.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers, internal teams, and government officials.
  • Ability to work systematically and accurately within a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
