Custom Software Developer

Posted Updated
Discussion

We're looking for a Custom Software Developer to join MeanPug's dev team and help build the internal tools, automations, and data solutions that power our work for law firm clients. This is not a client-facing role. You'll work closely with and take direction from our lead developer, building custom software that our teams use day-to-day to deliver better results at scale.

The scope is intentionally broad. One week you might be building a scraper to pull competitor data, the next you're spinning up a dashboard to visualize client performance metrics or automating a workflow that used to take the team hours to do manually. If you're someone who likes variety, enjoys solving practical problems with code, and wants to work in a fast-moving agency environment where your output directly impacts client results, this role is for you.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain custom web scrapers and data collection tools to support client research and competitive intelligence
  • Develop data visualizations and reporting dashboards that surface insights for internal teams and client accounts
  • Build automation workflows that eliminate repetitive manual tasks across the agency
  • Work across the full stack as needed, from backend data processing to front-end interfaces
  • Take direction from the lead developer on scoping, prioritization, and technical approach
  • Write clean, documented code that other developers can understand, maintain, and build on
  • Troubleshoot and maintain existing tools as they evolve alongside client and team needs
  • Stay current on relevant tools, libraries, and approaches that could improve how we build

Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of software development experience with a demonstrated ability to ship real, working tools
  • Comfortable working across both frontend and backend, you're not precious about which side of the stack you're on
  • Solid Python skills for scripting, data processing, and automation
  • Strong JavaScript and Node.js skills for frontend interfaces and API integrations
  • Experience building web scrapers or data collection tools
  • Comfort working with APIs, webhooks, and third-party data integrations
  • Strong attention to detail and good documentation habits
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment once a project is scoped
  • Clear communicator who can flag blockers and ask the right questions without waiting to be chased

Bonus skills (nice to have)

  • Experience with data visualization libraries such as D3.js, Chart.js, or Plotly
  • Familiarity with automation platforms such as Make, Zapier, or n8n
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or similar for deploying lightweight services
  • Comfort with SQL or working with structured datasets
  • Any exposure to digital marketing tools or platforms (Google Ads, GA4, SEO tools, etc.)

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Company-sponsored 401(k) with matching
  • Flexible work schedule, work when and where you're most productive as long as deliverables are met
  • Up to $500 reimbursement for pet adoption fees or vaccinations
  • Technology stipend for equipment setup
  • Professional development opportunities
