Customer Quality Engineer
SEG Automotive is seeking a Customer Quality Engineer to join our Quality team. This position serves as the primary quality interface with assigned customers, ensuring customer satisfaction through effective management of quality concerns, warranty reduction initiatives, PPAP development, and continuous improvement activities.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in automotive quality systems, customer-facing quality management, problem-solving methodologies, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the primary quality contact for assigned customers.
- Manage and reduce customer complaints and warranty-related issues.
- Lead customer quality investigations and coordinate corrective actions.
- Develop and submit PPAP documentation for new products and engineering changes.
- Coordinate containment actions and ensure timely resolution of customer concerns.
- Drive root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Monitor customer quality performance metrics and implement improvement plans.
- Support customer audits and ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Logistics, and Program Management teams to resolve quality issues.
- Facilitate communication between customers and internal departments regarding quality matters.
- Participate in new product launches and quality readiness activities.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 requirements and customer quality standards.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive industry, preferably in Customer Quality or Manufacturing Quality.
- Experience serving as a customer quality representative or quality engineer.
- Experience managing customer complaints, corrective actions, and warranty issues.
- Experience with PPAP development and submission.
- Experience conducting Layered Process Audits (LPAs).
- Experience working directly with OEM customers and Tier 1 automotive suppliers.
- Automotive Core Tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA.
- Problem-solving methodologies: 8D, 5 Why's, Ishikawa, etc.
- IATF 16949 quality management system requirements.
- Customer-specific requirements for automotive OEMs.
- Statistical analysis and quality improvement tools.
- Technical drawing interpretation and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of rotating electrical products, starters, alternators, electronic assemblies, or automotive manufacturing processes is a plus.
Experience working with automotive OEMs such as:
- General Motors (GM)
- Ford
- Stellantis
- Nissan
- Volvo
- Intermediate English (written and verbal) required.
- IATF 16949 Internal Auditor certification.
- Six Sigma certification or equivalent problem-solving training.
- Knowledge of automotive electrical systems, starters, alternators, or electronic products.
- Experience in welding, assembly, machining, die casting, or related manufacturing processes.
- Valid U.S. Visa and Passport.
- Availability to travel within Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
