Customer Risk Review Analyst
Summary
The Customer Risk Review Analyst conducts end-to-end CDD and EDD reviews for complex merchant portfolios and investigates financial crime triggers. The role involves managing risk assessments, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and refining risk frameworks within a global fintech environment.
This is Adyen
Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.
For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.
The Role
Our Customer Risk Review team is seeking an experienced CDD Risk Analyst who brings 3–6+ years of payments or financial industry experience and Financial Economic Crimes. The candidate must have a strong risk-driven mindset, exceptional professional judgment, and the ability to conduct holistic risk assessments. Whether conducting a scheduled review for a global enterprise or responding to real-time adverse media and scheme violations, you are someone who does not wait for step-by-step playbooks—you proactively create direction, conclude on integrity risks, risk appetite, mitigating factors and execute action plans end-to-end. We work with high energy, positive mindset and intentional attitude, ensuring we do our best daily.
What You Will Do
- Lead end-to-end CDD & EDD reviews for high-risk or complex merchant portfolios, ensuring strict adherence to quality standards, SLAs, and global regulatory policies.
- Drive rapid-response investigations into real-time adverse events, transaction anomalies, and financial crime triggers to mitigate integrity risks.
- Engage directly with customers to request, verify, and update essential documentation and static data.
- Provide expert advisory to merchants on due diligence requirements, efficiently resolving escalations and clarifying regulatory expectations.
- Harmonize review frameworks and risk-scoring models alongside regional and global risk teams to ensure consistent risk evaluation.
- Spearhead process improvements to scale risk operations and enhance detection capabilities.
- Mentor and upskill junior analysts on complex risk assessment techniques and best practices.
- Apply professional judgment to evaluate non-binary risks, balancing business growth with robust risk mitigation.
- Assess multidisciplinary risks spanning Card Scheme/LPM violations, AML, Sanctions, Anti-Terrorist Financing, and Fraud.
- Synthesize complex risk triggers (e.g., intricate ownership, shifting business models) into clear, actionable, and enforceable risk decisions.
- Execute investigations autonomously, establishing methodologies and gathering multi-source data to manage high-stakes risk outcomes.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (Commercial, Legal, Compliance, Tech) to align on risk decisions and articulate financial crime concepts clearly.
Why is this Role Unique?
This is not a tick-box compliance or routine front-line role. As a Risk Review analyst, you operate at the strategic center of Adyen’s regulatory risk operations.
You will be a gatekeeper, identifying, assessing, looking for mitigating measures and helping business and senior management in the customer decision making process. You will manage your periodic risk cycles, while maintaining the investigative agility to handle high-stakes trigger events. You will have direct autonomy to influence how we scale risk operations, refine review frameworks, and safeguard Adyen's regulatory license globally.
Who You Are
- 3–6+ years of hands-on experience in complex KYC/CDD, EDD, financial economic crime (FEC) investigations, or risk management within payments, fintech, or global banking.
- Risk-Based Mindset: You apply diligent professional judgment to evaluate broader business models, product integrations, and holistic risk exposure.
- Mastery over Ambiguity: Comfortable operating with incomplete data, contradictory signals, and evolving regulatory expectations.
- Deep Domain Expertise: Solid understanding of global AML/CTF, sanctions, card scheme rules, LPM frameworks, and account misconfiguration risks.
- Self-Driven & Proactive: You don't wait for direction—you identify emerging risk patterns, define the review strategy, align stakeholders, and drive solutions to completion.
- Decisive & Articulate: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to make defensible, hard calls under pressure and defend them to internal leadership and regulators.
- ACAMS or Financial Economic Crimes related certifications are a plus.
