Cyber Security Analyst- Engineer

Summary

Conduct cyber analytical activities, evaluate security systems, and investigate cyber events at a national lab using SIEM (Splunk), vulnerability tools, and endpoint protection while enforcing STIGs/SRGs.

Positions focused on leading, advancing, developing, and applying science, technology, engineering, information technology, and research and development, to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions to Laboratory missions. These positions may involve discovery, design, and development of innovative solutions which advance the state of the art.

Responsible to provide cyber-technical expertise through the conduct of cyber analytical activities, evaluation of information/technical/physical security systems and practices, and to identify, investigate, and analyze cyber events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in a relevant field of study and 7–9 years of direct professional cybersecurity and cyber engineering experience.
  • Certifications: Must hold at least 1 general cybersecurity certification (e.g., CISSP, Security+) AND 1 technical certification (e.g., GCIH, CEH, Splunk/Tenable certified).
  • Thorough understanding of the cyber engineering discipline and a foundational understanding of adjacent IT and engineering disciplines.
  • Deep understanding of security architectures, encryption standards, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and network security protocols.
  • Hands-on experience applying and enforcing STIGs and SRGs.
  • Proficiency with enterprise cyber tools for vulnerability assessments, SIEM (e.g., Splunk), endpoint protection, and security frameworks.
  • Tooling Maintenance & Support: Maintain and support core cyber security toolsets, ensuring their effective operation, health, and policy alignment across the enterprise.
  • Strong understanding of risk management concepts and familiarity with cloud security principles.
  • Due to federal security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is legally required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced understanding of implementing NIST SP 800-53 Controls
  • Current or former experience within the Department of Energy (DOE) complex or a federal contractor cybersecurity technical environment.
  • Practical experience designing or implementing Zero Trust Architecture or innovative solutions that advance the state of the art.
  • Active Splunk or Tenable (ACAS) certifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and integrate new technologies, concepts, and technical processes.
  • Active DOE (Q or L) security clearance.
