Intern Program Overview
Builders’ Internship Program provides students with meaningful, hands-on experience and an opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of the insurance industry. Interns work on real business projects, contribute to organizational goals, and gain exposure to various areas of the company.Throughout the program, interns have opportunities to connect with leaders and professionals across the organization, build a strong professional network, and learn from experienced colleagues. The program also includes professional development sessions, networking events, learning opportunities, and collaborative projects designed to enhance skills, broaden industry knowledge, and prepare interns for future career success.
Position Summary
The Cybersecurity Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting the protection of sensitive customer data, underwriting systems, claims platforms, and enterprise applications that are essential to business operations. This internship provides an opportunity to develop practical cybersecurity skills while gaining exposure to third-party security management, risk assessment, incident response, data governance, and compliance processes within a highly regulated insurance environment.
Through structured training and meaningful on-the-job experiences, the Intern will contribute to initiatives designed to strengthen the organization’s cybersecurity posture and help safeguard systems and data against evolving threats. The Intern will gain firsthand exposure to insurance-specific governance requirements, regulatory expectations, documentation practices, and compliance processes.
Key areas of experience may include:
- Supporting the review and ongoing enhancement of cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures to align with industry frameworks and insurance-specific regulatory requirements.
- Assisting with cybersecurity compliance initiatives, including the annual Cybersecurity Certification of Compliance, third-party governance reviews, and internal control assessments.
- Supporting the development of employee cybersecurity awareness materials, phishing simulations, and internal communications designed to promote a strong culture of security.
- Contributing to projects focused on policy modernization, third-party governance, data classification, Identity & Access Governance (IAG), and audit preparation.
- Applying established cybersecurity guidelines and leveraging relevant tools and systems to support risk management and security objectives.
Throughout the internship, the Intern will develop and strengthen critical skills in communication, organization, analytical thinking, problem-solving, risk management, and collaboration. The Intern will have opportunities to work alongside experienced cybersecurity and business professionals, build meaningful relationships across the organization, and gain a deeper understanding of how cybersecurity supports the insurance industry.
This experience will provide the Intern with a strong foundation of knowledge and practical skills while building the confidence and professional relationships needed to pursue a successful and rewarding career in cybersecurity and insurance.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in cyber security/information assurance, computer science, information technology or a related discipline
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment while maintaining a positive, motivated and proactive approach
- Skill in strategic and critical thinking with the ability to evaluate information, identify opportunities and develop thoughtful solutions
- Interest in, and curiosity about, the insurance industry, with a strong desire to learn and grow professionally
- Skill in written, verbal and interpersonal communications with the ability to build effective relationships across the organization
- Ability to perform high-quality work while demonstrating professionalism, sound judgment and accountability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and function specific software
