Cybersecurity Engineer (Mid-Level) – Product and Platform Security

Location: Flexible / Hybrid Baltimore Maryland

Company: BlackSea Technologies

Salary Range: $145,000 - $165,000 annually

BlackSea is building the next generation of maritime autonomy. Our systems deploy, operate, and deliver in the real world. We do not secure paper systems. We secure systems that deploy and operate in the real world

From unmanned surface vessels to mission systems and autonomy software, we design, manufacture, and operate mission-ready platforms at scale. Our systems are already in the water, already in use, and already shaping how autonomous fleets operate.

At the core of this is Mainstay, our autonomy platform. Mainstay connects onboard systems, sensors, autonomy software, communications, and operator interfaces into a single operational system. It enables vehicles to operate independently, integrate with external systems, and be managed across a fleet. As this platform grows, security has to be built into every layer, from onboard compute to communications to cloud and control systems. This role is responsible for helping make that happen.

This is not a compliance-only role. This is not a SOC analyst role. This is an engineering role for someone who can take security findings and turn them into real system improvements. Most cybersecurity roles protect internal systems. This one helps secure autonomous platforms operating in the real world. If you want to build systems that deploy, platforms that scale, and software that matters, this is the place to do it.

What You Will Do

· Secure the Platform End to End

· Help design and implement security controls across vessel systems, ground control systems, communications, and infrastructure

· Improve how data moves off deployed platforms and how software and configuration are managed across fleets

Turn Findings into Action

· Interpret security assessments and vulnerability findings

· Translate findings into engineering tasks and system improvements

· Work with engineering teams to ensure issues are resolved

Harden Real Systems

· Improve security across Linux systems, containers, and distributed components

· Strengthen authentication, access control, segmentation, and monitoring

· Reduce attack surface across onboard and offboard systems

Support Risk Reduction

· Analyze system vulnerabilities and failure modes

· Validate fixes and ensure issues are fully addressed

· Help systems remain resilient under degraded conditions

Strengthen Security Engineering Practices

· Define practical security requirements

· Contribute to documentation and technical artifacts

· Support ongoing improvement of platform security

What It Takes to Win Here

· Think in systems, interfaces, and failure modes

· Translate findings into real engineering actions

· Work across software, networking, and real systems

· Balance speed with rigor

· Take ownership without waiting for direction
