Dairy Manager - Hobart
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Dairy Manager
Reports to: Store Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Bargaining Unit: Union
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dairy Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the dairy department, ensuring products are well-stocked, fresh, and merchandised according to company standards. This role assists with ordering, inventory, and sales performance while providing excellent customer service and maintaining compliance with food safety and sanitation guidelines. The Dairy Manager leads and trains department associates to deliver consistent service, achieve sales goals, and support overall store success.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Assist in all aspects of the dairy department, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and merchandising.
2. Maintain proper inventory levels and minimize shrink through effective rotation and product management.
3. Ensure all dairy products meet freshness, quality, and food safety standards.
4. Set and maintain attractive displays to drive sales and customer satisfaction.
5. Support monitoring of department sales, gross profit, and labor to meet or exceed performance targets.
6. Help train and guide department associates in job duties and customer service standards.
7. Provide excellent customer service by assisting shoppers, answering questions, and resolving issues.
8. Ensure compliance with company policies, union contract provisions, health regulations, and safety standards.
9. Assist with planning and execution of promotions, ad items, and seasonal features.
10. Perform other duties as assigned to support store and company objectives.

Position Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Prior retail grocery experience; dairy or perishable experience preferred.

Strong customer service skills and ability to work effectively with others.

Knowledge of ordering, inventory control, and shrink reduction practices preferred.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, and work in refrigerated environments.
Work Environment:

Grocery store environment with frequent exposure to refrigerated conditions.

Requires repetitive lifting, bending, and extended periods of standing and walking.
