Position Purpose

The Dairy Supervisor is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the dairy department, ensuring exceptional customer service, product quality, inventory control, merchandising execution, and associate productivity. This position provides leadership to department associates while maintaining freshness standards, achieving sales goals, minimizing shrink, and ensuring compliance with company policies and food safety standards. The Dairy Supervisor plays a key role in delivering a well-stocked, organized, and customer-focused department.

Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by assisting customers with product selection and answering questions regarding dairy products.
  • Ensure dairy cases, displays, and promotional areas are fully stocked, properly signed, and visually appealing.
  • Promote department sales through effective merchandising and product knowledge.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Support sales-building initiatives, seasonal programs, and promotional displays.
Department Operations
  • Oversee daily stocking, rotation, replenishment, and merchandising activities within the dairy department.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and display of refrigerated products.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to maintain in-stock conditions while minimizing out-of-stocks.
  • Ensure department areas, coolers, and backrooms remain clean, organized, and customer-ready.
  • Maintain proper product rotation using first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and expiration dates to reduce shrink and maintain standards.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide direction, coaching, and support to dairy department associates.
  • Assist with training new associates on department procedures, customer service expectations, and food safety standards.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Communicate department priorities and expectations clearly to associates.
  • Lead by example through professionalism, integrity, and strong work habits.
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, company, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain proper temperature controls and monitoring procedures for refrigerated products.
  • Ensure associates follow established food handling and storage procedures.
  • Support department readiness for food safety and operational audits.
  • Identify and address safety concerns promptly to maintain a safe work environment.
Financial Stewardship
  • Support achievement of department sales, productivity, and profitability goals.
  • Assist in controlling inventory, shrink, and operating expenses.
  • Monitor product movement and adjust ordering practices to support sales and minimize waste.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and department performance.
  • Support labor productivity goals through effective workload planning and execution.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous grocery, dairy, retail, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of dairy products, inventory management, merchandising, and food safety practices preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and twisting.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment in accordance with company standards.
