About Us
We help the UK move forward, faster.
For nearly 150 years, we've protected the UK economy with deep expertise and rigour, building the confidence that helps businesses access lending, investment and opportunity.
We help people deal with personal insolvency. We make statutory redundancy payments when insolvent employers can't. We investigate director conduct and take action where it's needed.
And right now, we're changing how we do all of this, becoming faster, more digitally driven, and more focused on stopping problems before they escalate.
More than 2,000 of us work in offices across England, Scotland and Wales. It might be time for you to join us.
The Role
We're looking for a Data Analyst who excels at bringing data to life. You will bring data to life, helping the Insolvency Service and the wider Civil Service to deliver excellence for our customers and the economy. This supports creating a modern, sustainable Insolvency Service by improving the organisation's data literacy and maturity.
This is a role for someone who wants to think bigger, challenge the way things have always been done, and take ownership of the outcomes that matter. We're looking for enthusiastic, skilled and adaptable people who want ongoing professional development, varied work and the chance to work on challenging, rewarding data and analysis projects.
We offer full-time, part-time, job share and flexible working. We invest in your development and give our people the space to grow, take ownership and make decisions.
Job description
As a Data Analyst, you will collect, organise and analyse data to provide business insight, helping senior leaders across the agency to make evidence-based decisions on operational delivery and policy. This supports creating a modern, sustainable Insolvency Service by building the agency's data literacy and maturity, and by maximising the value we get from our data.
Reporting to the Deputy Head of Statistics, you'll be part of the Analysis and Performance team, which supports the Insolvency Service with data, statistics and analysis to inform operational delivery, policy development and performance improvement. You'll work with colleagues across Analysis and Performance, and with stakeholders across the agency and the wider Civil Service, to turn complex data into clear, actionable insight for both specialist and non-specialist audiences. You'll take responsibility for producing accurate, high-quality analysis and for helping the team automate data flows and build capability in data visualisation.
The team is on a journey to automate data flows and products, and build capability in analysis and data visualisation. You will play a key role in this and will have the opportunity to learn and apply skills in Power Bl, R and Azure Data Platform.
What you'll do (Responsibilities)
As a Data Analyst, you'll use your expertise and judgement to:
- produce the agency's regular official statistics, ensuring compliance with the Code of Practice for Statistics, to create outputs in a variety of formats for different audiences
- produce regular performance reports and dashboards, analysing data to create compelling, evidence-based data stories that help stakeholders make decisions
- use a range of analytical techniques, such as exploratory data analysis, descriptive statistics, time series analysis and correlation analysis, to identify and predict trends in data
- work with a variety of qualitative and quantitative data, ensuring analysis is of high quality and accuracy
- provide challenge and collaborate with other digital and analytical professionals to deliver collective insights
- continuously improve processes and systems, referring to the Analysis Function Standards, for example the Aqua Book
In their own words
"I’m proud that I provided and published analysis on business insolvency demographics, which colleagues used to help inform the development of new company insolvency policies and legislation. This supports our agency objective of Empower by giving people the information they need to act." [Edward Tuersley, Data Analyst]
