Data Analyst

Discussion

Summary

Analyze operational data from tolling and intelligent transportation products using SQL and Excel, while building Python and Linux utilities for task automation.

We are looking for a data analyst who can also develop practical tools. The main responsibility is to analyze operational data from tolling and intelligent transportation products. The candidate will use SQL and Excel to prepare data, investigate results, identify problems, and communicate findings. When analysis work benefits from automation, the candidate will use Python, Linux, and scripting to build small utilities and repeatable workflows. This is primarily a data-analysis role, not a general software-development role.

What the candidate must have

Data analysis

• Practical professional experience analyzing data;
• Good working knowledge of SQL;
• Good working knowledge of Excel, including formulas, filters, pivot tables, and charts;
• Ability to clean, compare, summarize, and validate data;
• Ability to identify inconsistencies, patterns, and outliers;
• Ability to explain findings clearly to technical and non-technical people.

Development support

• Practical experience with Python;
• Familiarity with Linux and command-line tools;
• Familiarity with scripting and task automation;
• Ability to create or adapt small tools that make analysis faster or more reliable.

Working style

• Strong analytical skills and critical-thinking ability;
• Careful and methodical when handling data;
• Able to question assumptions, assess evidence, and distinguish facts from interpretations;
• Able to document assumptions, steps, and conclusions;
• Highly autonomous and accountable for progressing work independently;
• Comfortable working in an exploratory environment where the problem and expected outcome may not always be fully scoped;
• Comfortable collaborating with software and operations teams;
• Good communication in English, spoken and written.

Typical work

• Query and analyze operational data using SQL;
• Use Excel to explore data, produce summaries, and communicate results;
• Check data quality and investigate unexpected results;
• Compare data from different systems or sources;
• Prepare concise reports and recommendations;
• Automate repetitive preparation and analysis tasks with Python and scripts;
• Use Linux tools to inspect files, logs, and data-processing jobs;
• Build lightweight utilities to support analysis when needed;
• Keep analysis steps and results understandable to other team members.

Useful, but not required

• Experience with Python data-analysis libraries such as pandas;
• Experience with operational, event, sensor, image, or other high-volume data;
• Experience working with software, systems, or operations teams;
• Familiarity with Git;
• Experience in tolling or intelligent transportation.

These are advantages, not mandatory requirements. Candidates should not be excluded because they lack a specific framework, database product, degree, or software-development methodology if they can demonstrate the core skills above.

Company context

• International company working on tolling and intelligent transportation products;
• Work location: Lagoas Park, Oeiras;
• Collaboration with software, systems, data, and operations teams;
• Documentation and collaboration in English and Portuguese;
• The required development and data environments will be provided.
