Data Analytics Engineer

PBT Group is looking for an experienced Data Analytics Engineer to join our data engineering team. This role sits at the intersection of Data Engineering and Data Analytics, with a strong focus on building reliable, scalable and performant data models and data assets that enable effective reporting and decision-making.

The ideal candidate will have strong SQL and data modelling experience, a solid understanding of analytics engineering principles, and experience developing production-grade data solutions within modern data environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable data models, data marts and semantic layers.

  • Develop robust SQL transformations, data pipelines and production-grade data assets.

  • Apply dimensional modelling and data warehousing best practices.

  • Implement data validation, testing and quality assurance frameworks.

  • Optimise SQL queries, data models and workloads for performance and scalability.

  • Develop and maintain reliable transformation code using version control, CI/CD and testing practices.

  • Support and troubleshoot production data models and resolve data or performance issues.

  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Analysts, Data Architects and business stakeholders to translate analytical requirements into effective data solutions.

  • Contribute to data standards, reusable modelling components and technical best practices.

  • Participate in code reviews and provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

  • Identify opportunities to improve data processes, automation and team productivity, including through modern tooling and AI-enabled approaches.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Honours degree in Data, Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related technical discipline.

  • Proven experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering or a closely related role.

  • Strong experience in SQL and data modelling.

  • Practical experience with data warehousing and dimensional modelling.

  • Experience developing and productionising data models, reports or analytical data assets using software engineering principles.

  • Experience with CI/CD, version control and data testing frameworks.

  • Experience with data orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect or similar.

  • Understanding of data governance, data quality and production support.

  • Experience working with cloud data platforms.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, making technical decisions, influencing data modelling and architecture discussions, and helping improve the overall quality and efficiency of the data environment.
