Data architect
Summary
A Data Architect designing and governing the data architecture for a modernized financial services platform — modeling data (domain/conceptual/logical/physical), selecting database technologies, and bridging business and engineering teams. Core technologies include RDBMS (Oracle, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (Cassandra, YugabyteDB), and tools like ER/Studio and Hackolade.
- Role Purpose:
Serve as the bridge between business, solution architecture, and engineering teams to design, define, and govern the data architecture for a modernized financial services platform.
- Business Understanding:
Analyze and translate card, payment, billing, and broader financial business processes into comprehensive data requirements.
- Data Architecture Design:
Architect target-state enterprise data structures from scratch, including data models (domain, conceptual, logical, physical), data flows, data ownership, and integration patterns.
- Technology Selection:
Evaluate and decide on appropriate data technologies (RDBMS, NoSQL, distributed/cloud databases) and design for use cases such as real-time and event-driven systems.
- Collaboration:
Work closely with solution architects, developers, and business stakeholders to define and challenge architectural decisions, ensuring alignment with business needs and technical best practices.
- Architecture Governance:
Own the data architecture through its lifecycle, including establishing data standards, modelling conventions, governance principles, and documentation; participate in architecture reviews and support enterprise-wide data strategy.
- Documentation & Communication:
Produce clear, comprehensive architecture documentation and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences; articulate complex technical concepts effectively.
- System Assessment & Modernization:
Assess current-state systems, recommend modernization/optimization opportunities, and support data migration, integration, and transformation planning.
- Performance & Resiliency:
Design scalable, high-performance, resilient, and disaster recovery-ready data solutions, considering partitioning, replication, and high availability.
- Required Experience:
- Proven track record in enterprise data architecture and modelling (relational and NoSQL/distributed systems).
- Strong experience with financial services, capital markets, or investment banking environments.
- Expertise with Domain Driven Design, CQRS, and data governance.
- Hands-on experience with RDBMS (Oracle, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (Cassandra, YugabyteDB), and data modelling tools (ER/Studio, Hackolade).
- Familiarity with cloud/hybrid architectures is advantageous.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent English communication and presentation skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and documentation capabilities.
- Ability to independently handle ambiguous business problems and deliver scalable data solutions.
- Collaborative mindset, analytical thinking, and robust problem-solving abilities.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in large-scale enterprise transformation programs and data governance frameworks.
- Financial industry or architecture certifications are a plus.
