Data Center Engineer – Freelance Job
Location: Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands
Responsibilities
- Inventory, install, and rack client hardware, following client standards and procedures.
- Perform cabling installations, ensuring cable organization and adherence to labeling standards.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware issues in servers, switches, and other data center equipment.
- Replace components such as DIMMs, hard drives, power supplies, and transceivers in server, storage, and network devices.
- Conduct commissioning and decommissioning of hardware.
- Troubleshoot cabling issues, including copper and fiber optic connections.
- Install data center infrastructure materials, including racks, cabinets, cable trays, ladder racks, cable management systems, and networking cables.
- Utilize ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow) to provide clear and timely customer communication.
- Maintain regular communication with employees, contractors, and clients via phone, email, or ticketing system.
- Participate in call bridges to troubleshoot and validate infrastructure-related issues.
- Adhere to Change Control Processes and Standards.
- Escort and support third-party vendor activities.
- Process all tickets within SLA guidelines and follow procedural requirements.
- Travel to remote data centers and colocation locations for maintenance tasks.
- Interface with the Nlyte Data Center (DCIM) application to configure or remove devices.
Qualification & Requirement
- Proven experience with equipment rack and stack, cable termination, and dressing network cables according to standard practices.
- Knowledge of data center infrastructure components (servers, storage, networking)
- Experience with server hardware components (CPU, RAM, RAID, etc.)
- Ability to diagnose hardware and software issues, and log cases with OEMs for hardware problems.
- Experience conducting cabinet and cage audits and updating the DC inventory management system.
- Proficiency in installing and removing blades, cards, memory, hard drives, and transceivers.
- Familiarity with testing and troubleshooting copper and fiber optic circuits, as well as internal cross‑connects.
- Ability to perform rack‑to‑rack movement of equipment.
- Experience in shipping, receiving, logging, and storing internal package movements.
- Ability to provide timely updates to customers using a ticketing system.
- Basic knowledge of Compute, Network, Storage, and Operating Systems is an added advantage.
