Data Center Engineer
Summary
A field Data Center Engineer in Singapore providing hands-on operational support: installing and troubleshooting servers, network/security gear and structured cabling, coordinating third-party vendors and inventory, managing RMAs, and sharing after-hours on-call duty for a Samsung Electronics data center team.
Position Summary We are currently looking for a Field Data Center Engineer to join a team that provides hands-on operational support for Data Centers. This role requires a combination of technical expertise and project coordination experience, and leadership capabilities to guide local teams and third-party vendors.
Role and Responsibilities- Perform on-site data center operations and ensure proper implementation of infrastructure projects, including server relocations and hardware installations.
- Hands-on installation of servers, network and security equipment, as well as structured and rack-to-rack cabling, following industry standards.
- Maintain and troubleshoot various hardware and physical network components.
- On-site coordination with third-party vendors for the installation of racks, power, servers, network equipment, and cabling.
- Ensure all cabling and infrastructure installations follow standards.
- Manage inventory and coordinate with suppliers and shipping companies for both domestic and international shipments.
- Document, improve, and maintain standard operating procedures.
- Initiate and manage RMAs with equipment vendors.
- Provide after-hours on-call support for emergencies and outages as part of a rotation with other engineers.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in data centers, including experience with data center and network vendors, coordinating service provisioning and equipment installations.
- Strong hands-on experience in installing and troubleshooting server hardware, network circuits, and cables.
- Familiarity with structured cabling standards.
- Experience in project coordination within data center environments.
- Experience with inventory control and remote hands coordination.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, especially with complex spreadsheets and shared documentation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; able to lead and represent operational interests on-site.
- Self-starter who works effectively with minimal supervision.
- Broad technical understanding of data center hardware, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Willingness to travel internationally (up to 10%).
