Data Center Engineer

Role Overview

Support, maintain, and optimise data center infrastructure across hardware, networking, cabling, monitoring, and incident response. Duties scale by level (L1–L3) based on technical depth and ownership.

Core Responsibilities

L1 – Operations & Hands‑On Support

  • Perform rack/stack, hardware swaps, and physical installs
  • Complete cabling, patching, labelling, and basic troubleshooting
  • Run health checks, monitoring alerts, and ticket triage
  • Escort vendors and follow standard operating procedures

L2 – Technical Troubleshooting & Maintenance

  • Diagnose and resolve server, storage, and network issues
  • Perform firmware updates, configuration changes, and system maintenance
  • Support incident response, root cause analysis, and escalations
  • Maintain asset records, capacity data, and documentation

L3 – Advanced Engineering & Escalations

  • Lead complex troubleshooting across compute, storage, network, and virtualization
  • Optimise performance, capacity, and reliability of DC systems
  • Drive automation, process improvement, and infrastructure upgrades
  • Collaborate with architecture teams on design and implementation

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in data center operations (L1–L3 depending on level)
  • Strong understanding of servers, storage, networking, virtualization, cabling standards
  • Ability to work in controlled environments and follow strict change processes
  • Certifications (nice to have): CCNA/CCNP, Server+, Network+, ITIL, VMware, Azure/AWS
