Data Center Specialist-Senior
Summary
Senior role overseeing enterprise data-center operations, maintaining servers and network hardware, troubleshooting failures, and mentoring junior staff in a healthcare-focused government environment.
Under limited supervision, responsible for monitoring data center operations and maintenance activities and performing associated tasks with operating an enterprise-level multi-server computer environment. Leads or mentors lower level team members.
ASSOCIATES DEGREE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE OR RELATED FIELD AND 6 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE NEEDED
- Performs and supports lower level team members with basic tasks in the maintenance, diagnosis and repair of data center hardware, equipment and peripherals to include network cabling, installations and decommissions.
- Continuously observes system/server availability and backup job operations.
- Troubleshoots according to established knowledge base and procedures; reports, escalates, and documents system alerts and backup job failures to appropriate support personnel.
- Evaluates and recognizes data center systems/environment failures and hardware malfunctions.
- Confers with software systems engineering or applications programming personnel in the event errors require a change of instructions or sequence of operations.
- Conducts routine checks, power audits and operational logistics.
- Submits, reviews, tracks and maintains records of facilities maintenance requests, activity/incident reports, and required logs.
- Performs Tier 1 ticket requests and supports lower level team members.
- Follows operational procedures to troubleshoot and resolve system problems.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of computer systems, software applications and automated systems concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
- Competent to work on most phases of computer operations, with ability to provide some instruction and guidance for other phases.
- Ability to act as a team leader, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows.
- Meticulous attention to detail in identifying patterns and malfunctions within data systems that may otherwise be overlooked.
