Responsibilities

  • Hardware Installation & Maintenance: Racking, stacking, cabling, and configuring servers, switches, and routers.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnosing and resolving hardware failures (break/fix) and network connectivity issues.
  • System Monitoring: Monitoring server and environmental systems (power/cooling) to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Inventory Management: Tracking hardware assets, managing spare parts, and managing shipping/receiving of equipment.
  • Documentation: Updating maintenance logs, creating incident reports, and managing data center cabling records.
  • Security & Compliance: Maintaining physical security protocols and adhering to safety standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of server hardware, network infrastructure, and operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows).
  • Physical Ability: Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a fast-paced, sometimes cold, environment.
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, or CCNA are highly valued.
  • Education: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Science or a polytechnic diploma, though relevant experience may substitute.
