Core: data centre M&E (UPS, PDU, CRAC/AHU) and network architecture.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Design & Infrastructure Strategy Engineer to shape the design, expansion, and modernisation of enterprise data centres across multiple countries.
This role is ideal for professionals with a strong network architecture and infrastructure engineering background who want to expand into data centre design, capacity planning, and strategic infrastructure investment.
You will work with network architects, hosting teams, engineering consultants, and colocation providers to develop scalable designs, evaluate expansion options, and present evidence-based recommendations to senior technology leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Define data centre design standards, rack configurations, power density, and structured cabling guidelines.
- Assess existing sites for power, cooling, capacity, device footprint, and infrastructure optimisation opportunities.
- Develop and compare expansion options, including rack additions, footprint optimisation, and new data centre space.
- Prepare cost estimates, investment business cases, and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Evaluate network and rack architecture, including spine-leaf, pod-based designs, connectivity, redundancy, and uplink standards.
- Engage and negotiate with colocation providers, landlords, engineering consultants, and cabling vendors.
- Oversee feasibility studies, capacity planning, infrastructure upgrades, and design improvements.
- Translate complex technical findings into clear, commercially sound recommendations.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in data centre design, engineering, network architecture, or infrastructure strategy.
- Good understanding of data centre M&E infrastructure, including UPS, PDU, CRAC/AHU, cooling, containment, and three-phase power.
- Knowledge of network architecture, switching, routing, port capacity, spine-leaf, and pod-based designs.
- Experience in capacity planning, cost modelling, business case preparation, and infrastructure investment analysis.
- Proven experience engaging colocation providers, engineering consultants, and senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in multi-site or regional data centre environments.
- Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier standards, ASHRAE guidelines, DCIM tools, and capacity forecasting.
- Exposure to regulated enterprise or financial services environments.
Ideal Candidate: A decisive, evidence-driven infrastructure professional who combines network architecture knowledge with data centre planning, commercial analysis, and stakeholder management.
