Data Centre Engineer (7x24 support role)
This role requires participation in a 24-hour rotating shift system to ensure the continuous stability and reliability of large-scale government public sector systems. While most support can be provided remotely after duty hours, you are required to provide on-site support when necessary.
Responsibilities:
Monitor Data Centre Perform daily inspections and real-time monitoring of servers, virtualization platforms, networks, storage systems, and power environments. Detect alarms and risks promptly, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
Manage Servers Carry out routine operations on Windows and Linux servers, including remote administration, account and permission control, disk space optimization, log analysis, and system health checks.
Maintain Security Execute vulnerability detection, patch testing, and upgrades in line with compliance standards. Ensure backups, risk assessments, and post-upgrade validations to maintain system integrity.
Respond to Emergencies Provide rapid troubleshooting and resolution for incidents such as downtime, service anomalies, and resource overloads. Escalate critical issues promptly and document incident reports thoroughly.
Keep Records Maintain accurate operation logs, inspection reports, and asset inventories. Ensure standardized, traceable processes that meet Hong Kong IT compliance requirements.
Project & Operator Support Assist with equipment upgrades, system replacements, and operational improvements. Support testing, deployment, acceptance, and cutover activities. Act as an operator to receive duty calls and handle frontline operational tasks during project execution.
Requirements:
Education & Experience Diploma or above in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or IT-related fields.
Work Experience Minimum 1 year of data centre or server operations experience; Hong Kong on-site experience is highly preferred.
Technical Skills Proficiency in Linux and Windows server operations, including system commands, service deployment, permission configuration, and performance optimization.
Patch Management Hands-on experience with patch upgrades, vulnerability detection, rollback procedures, and familiarity with networking, virtualization, and storage systems.
Shift Flexibility Willingness to work 24-hour rotating shifts, including nights and holidays, with strong emergency response awareness.
Operational Competence Ability to troubleshoot server issues independently, handle monitoring alerts, and adhere to SLA standards with precision and responsibility.
Language Skills Basic proficiency in English and Chinese for interpreting system alerts and technical documentation.
