Data Engineer
Summary
Data engineer supporting an enterprise Zero Trust program for a government agency: onboarding mission applications to ZT services, building data ingestion and reporting pipelines, and supporting data governance workflows. Requires an active TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph; on-site in Reston, VA.
Position Title: Data Engineer
Clearance Requirements: TS/SCI with CI Polygraph. Investigation or CV date within 5 years.
Location: Reston, VA
Position Summary: Supports enterprise Zero Trust service delivery to consuming mission partners, with primary focus on onboarding mission applications to enterprise ZT services, working directly with application teams and developing the ZT use cases and process workflows that make onboarding repeatable. Secondary focus includes developing solutions for the ZT Program to support data governance processes and data management requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Application Onboarding & ZT Integration:
- Support onboarding of mission applications to enterprise Zero Trust services, assessing each application’s integration path against approved enforcement patterns (application-integrated and service-fronting) and capturing technical prerequisites.
- Work directly with mission application and platform teams as the technical liaison for ZT integration — requirements capture, dependency identification, environment readiness, and issue resolution through validation.
- Support data-centric enablement for onboarding applications: application data flows, alignment to enterprise tagging and metadata standards, and attribute readiness for policy-based access decisions.
- Trace onboarding applications and candidate solutions to the program ZT capability model; identify gaps and onboarding blockers early and route them for adjudication.
Use Case & Process Development:
- Develop and document ZT use cases with application teams, capturing the access scenarios, data flows, and enforcement outcomes each onboarding must satisfy.
- Develop and maintain the onboarding process workflows — intake through validation, conformance evidence, and turnover — converting first-time integrations into repeatable playbooks.
- Maintain onboarding artifacts and records consistent with program delivery workflows and readiness processes.
Data Engineering & Reporting Pipelines:
- Design, build, and operate data collection and ingestion pipelines across heterogeneous sources (structured records, time series, APIs, unstructured text) with scheduled, rate-aware orchestration.
- Build and maintain layered data stores supporting delivery analytics and reporting — staged raw-to-curated patterns with immutable retention of source data and provenance-preserving normalization that retains raw values alongside normalized ones.
- Provision and maintain supporting infrastructure as code in on-premises and cloud-independent environments consistent with classified operating constraints.
- Instrument pipelines with dashboards, alerting, and data-quality monitoring; maintain reproducible lineage from source to report; deliver analysis-ready datasets to program reporting and visualization tools.
Coordination & Governance:
- Coordinate integration patterns, data definitions, and onboarding artifacts with Agency counterparts to prevent divergent handling of the same underlying activity.
- Handle application, delivery, and pipeline data consistent with Agency information-handling policy and classification requirements.
- Adhere to PWS/SOW scope boundaries and flag onboarding or data requests that fall outside implementation scope for adjudication.
