Summary

The Data Engineer will lead the end-to-end migration of a client-facing analytics platform from Snowflake to Microsoft Fabric. The role involves architecture design, custom API ingestion, and mentoring junior team members in a hybrid Manchester-based environment.

Requirements:
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric
  • Proven migration methodology from any source system
  • Experience with Snowflake-to-Fabric migration is highly beneficial
  • Comfortable building custom ingestion against vendor APIs
  • Confidence to own decisions independently
  • Comfortable acting as the senior voice in the room and providing light mentoring to junior team members
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the scoping phase to uncover the full shape of the migration work
  • Own the migration approach, including schema mapping, reconciliation, and cutover planning
  • Work with Fabric Lakehouse and OneLake architecture
  • Handle API-based ingestion where native connectors are not sufficient
  • Make architecture decisions largely unsupervised
  • Work alongside and mentor two junior engineers
  • Run the migration rather than simply supporting it

We are a Manchester-based business migrating a live, client-facing analytics platform from Snowflake to Microsoft Fabric. This is an outside IR35 contract with an expected duration of 6 to 9 months, though the exact length will be confirmed after the initial scoping phase. The role is hybrid, with one day per week in our Manchester office. We are looking for someone who has real migration experience and wants to take ownership of the move end to end.
