Microsoft Fabric & Power BI Specialist | Build a Modern Data Platform from the Ground Up

Hays Technology is partnering with a leading not-for-profit organisation to recruit an experienced BI & Data Engineer to play a key role in establishing and growing a modern enterprise data and analytics capability.


This is a unique opportunity to join an organisation at the very beginning of its Microsoft Fabric journey, where you'll have the chance to help shape the future state architecture, data platform, governance framework and analytics strategy from the ground up.


We're specifically looking for someone with strong, hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience who can bring practical knowledge and leadership to a business investing heavily in modern data and analytics technologies.

The Opportunity


As the organisation's Data Engineer, you will become the internal Subject Matter Expert for Microsoft Fabric, Power BI and modern data engineering practices.
Working closely with business stakeholders, technology teams and external implementation partners, you'll help establish a scalable, secure and trusted data platform that enables better decision-making across the organisation.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building platforms, solving complex data challenges and helping organisations mature their data and reporting capabilities.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design, build and support enterprise Microsoft Fabric solutions.
  • Develop and maintain Fabric Lakehouses, data pipelines and semantic models.
  • Build scalable ETL/ELT processes integrating data from multiple business systems.
  • Design and deliver Power BI dashboards, reports and analytics solutions.
  • Establish data governance, security, quality and monitoring frameworks.
  • Support self-service analytics and business adoption across the organisation.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
  • Create reusable data products and establish a trusted single source of truth.
  • Partner with external vendors and implementation partners while building internal capability and long-term platform ownership.
  • Contribute to the ongoing growth and maturity of the organisation's data and analytics landscape.
About You


Essential Experience


  • Strong commercial experience with Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience building and supporting Fabric Lakehouse architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Dataflows Gen2, OneLake, Semantic Models and Fabric Pipelines.
  • Strong Power BI development experience, including:
    • DAX
    • Data Modelling
    • Semantic Models
    • Dashboard & Report Development
    • Performance Optimisation
  • Advanced SQL skills.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modelling and data warehousing principles.
  • Experience delivering enterprise data integration solutions.
  • Experience establishing data quality, governance and monitoring processes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Highly Desirable


  • Microsoft Fabric certifications (DP-600, DP-700)
  • Azure Data Platform experience
  • Python or PySpark experience
  • Data Engineering background
  • Lakehouse Architecture experience
  • Microsoft Power Platform experience
  • Experience within health, community services, disability, aged care or not-for-profit sectors
