Data Engineer
Location: Birkenhead - Hybrid working
Working hours: 35 hours per week
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to design and deliver scalable, high-quality data pipelines and models across SQL Server and Azure platforms.
- Develop simple, modular, reusable data components following best practices to enhance maintainability, performance, and governance.
- Own end-to-end delivery of data solutions, including deployment, monitoring, and proactive resolution of issues within Azure DevOps environments.
- Drive continuous improvement through transparent communication, code reviews, constructive feedback, and adoption of modern data engineering practices.
Qualifications
- Experience working with SQL Server and strong T‑SQL development skills.
- Ability to design and build modular and reusable data components.
- Understanding of data modelling, schema design and performance optimisation.
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts and data pipeline development.
- Experience using Git and version control practices.
- Exposure to Azure data tools such as Azure SQL, Data Factory or Synapse.
- Understanding of structured development practices and SDLC principles.
- Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical colleagues.
- Experience supporting or improving SQL Server environments.
- Exposure to cloud‑based data platforms (ideally Azure).
- Experience working in structured development or delivery environments.
- Involvement in system improvements or modernisation initiatives.
