Data Engineer

Summary

Build and optimize Azure-based data pipelines and models for a bank’s liquidity and regulatory reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance in a regulated environment.

For a leading bank in the Utrecht region, we are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who will play a key role in building and optimizing data platforms that support critical financial processes such as liquidity reporting and regulatory compliance.

You will work in a highly regulated environment where data accuracy, reliability, and scalability are essential.

What Will You Do?

As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and delivering robust data solutions:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF)
  • Develop and optimize data processing solutions in Azure Databricks (Spark)
  • Model and manage data in Azure Synapse Analytics

Liquidity & Regulatory Reporting

  • Support and enhance liquidity reporting frameworks (e.g., LCR, NSFR)
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, and auditability for regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with Finance, Risk, and Regulatory teams
  • Design efficient data models (star/snowflake) for analytical workloads
  • Optimize performance and cost across Azure data services
  • Implement data partitioning, indexing, and caching strategies

Governance & Security

  • Ensure compliance with banking standards (e.g., BCBS 239 principles)
  • Implement data governance, access control, and encryption
  • Maintain strong data lineage and traceability
  • Work closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, and DevOps teams
  • Contribute to improving data engineering standards and best practices
  • Mentor junior engineers and elevate team maturity

What Do You Bring?

Must-Have Experience

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer in enterprise environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Solid SQL and data modeling skills

Domain Knowledge

  • Experience with banking or financial data is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of liquidity reporting (LCR, NSFR) is a strong plus
  • Experience with CI/CD for data pipelines
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform / ARM)
  • Understanding of data quality frameworks and testing

Governance & Compliance

  • Experience working in regulated environments
  • Knowledge of data governance, lineage, and auditing
