Data Engineer

Summary

Build and optimize scalable data pipelines and warehouses (Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server) to power enterprise analytics and reporting in AWS.

We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to join an established ICT team in Sydney CBD. In this pivotal role, you will design, build, and optimize scalable data platforms and pipelines that power data-driven decision-making across major enterprise transformation initiatives.

This is initially a 12-month Fixed-Term Contract, with aview to convert to a permanent role.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Data Engineering & Pipelines: Deliver scalable, secure, and reliable data pipelines and transformations supporting company-wide analytics and reporting.
  • Platform Optimisation: Maintain and optimise modern database and data warehouse environments for speed, availability, and security.
  • Data Governance & Architecture: Implement best-practice data modeling (Kimball/Inmon), Medallion architecture, metadata management, and security frameworks (ISO 27001/SOC 2).
  • DevOps & Automation: Champion DataOps principles, CI/CD automation, scripting, and continuous delivery within cloud environments.
  • Technical Leadership & Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional ICT teams, PMO delivery managers, and business stakeholders to solve complex data challenges and refine requirements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Database & Warehouse Expertise: Strong hands-on experience across Snowflake, Oracle, and MS SQL Server.
  • Data Stack & Scripting: Proficiency with Python, shell scripting, dbt, Airflow, Attunity, and Tableau.
  • Cloud & DataOps: Deep familiarity with AWS (including AWS RDS), version control (BitBucket/Subversion), and modern CI/CD/DataOps pipelines.
  • Architecture & Governance: Practical knowledge of Medallion architecture, metadata lineage tools (e.g., OpenLineage, Amundsen), and enterprise security compliance.
  • Communication & Autonomy: Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently, make technical design decisions, and engage constructively with stakeholders.
  • Education: Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
