Data Engineer

Salary: $125 - $135 per hour including super

• 12-month contract - ASAP Start
• Baseline Security Clearance required
• ACT preferred - NSW, QLD, SA, VIC considered

Our client, a federal government department who support Australia’s agricultural exports & manage biosecurity risks to protect our agricultural industries & way of life, is seeking an experienced Data Engineer.

Duties of the Data Engineer

• Create high business value, robust and efficient SQL pipelines to curate data from complex and high-volume sources;
• Design and implement methods to improve data reliability and quality;
• Ability to integrate disparate data assets through judicious use of reference data;
• Ability to maintain the optimal execution performance of a complex data pipeline;
• Daily monitoring of the pipeline execution, apply performance tuning techniques such as SQL optimisation, designing incremental extractions in SQL and partitioned refreshes in Power BI;

Skills and Experience Required

• Previous experience working across the Microsoft Azure Data Platform, including data integration, data storage and analytics;
• Experience using Azure DevOps, Visual Studio and/or Visual Studio Code;
• Strong experience with data ingestion, integration and storage across sources including flat files, Ingres, Azure and SQL Server;
• Strong SQL skills, with experience in Python, R and/or .NET highly desirable;
• Experience with data preparation and transformation for analytics, including Parquet and/or Delta formats;
• Familiarity with Australian biosecurity systems and/or the imported cargo pathway will be highly regarded.
