Data Engineer

Summary

Build and maintain data pipelines and warehouses in Snowflake/Azure to feed analytics and reporting, using dbt, SQL, Python, and DevOps practices for the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.

Role Overview

Bring your data engineering expertise to support the systems and data products that underpin critical decision‑making at Te Pūtea Matua | Reserve Bank of New Zealand. You will collaborate with talented data and technology professionals to evolve data engineering practices, support the delivery of new data collections, and maintain and enhance the systems that store, process and retrieve the Bank’s data products.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support, maintenance and enhancement of systems for storage, processing and retrieval of the Bank’s data products.
  • Support the delivery of two brand new data collections and work alongside senior engineers.
  • Implement changes, resolve defects, apply upgrades and add new data to meet evolving business needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Operations Group to evolve data engineering practices using appropriate frameworks and tools.

Qualifications

  • Experienced Data Engineer with strong knowledge of data modelling, including normalised and dimensional model techniques.
  • Skilled in SQL, Snowflake, dbt, and end‑to‑end ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience in Azure cloud environments.
  • Experience supporting analytics and reporting platforms, enabling curated datasets for tools such as Power BI.
  • Familiarity with Python.
  • Strong knowledge of DevOps methodologies, Git version control, CI/CD pipelines, and the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including build and deployment across environments.
